I also bet they are happy to be heading West instead of East. Very true. I had a college professor who, as a lieutenant in '45, escorted prisoners to Russia via train. He would not give us details, but told us that the train never quite made it all the way through Poland and his prisoners all manage to escape into the Polish countryside.
