The Phelpses are longtime Democrats. Fred ran for office five times, as a Dem, and his son was a delegate to the 1988 Democratic National Convention. He supported Al Gore.

There have been reports that while in college, Fred Phelps had a homosexual encounter. Maybe that’s why they’re protesting.

If Westboro expelled Phelps and they’re going to be protesting his funeral, who’s going to be doing his funeral?

Anyway, it will be one less hatemonger in the world.

And Westboro still needs to be protested. Maybe moreso.

Speculation as to why he was excommunicated is rampant on the Internet, with some assuming the WBC members found out Phelps was actually gay and others thinking he might have had a change in heart as his health declined. There’s no definite answer as of now.

Oh please. The WBC is nothing but a left-wing publicity stunt that will do whatever it takes for its own PR purposes and to make real fundamentalist Christians look bad.

In the lines of "if the WBC didn't exist, the left would have to invent it", the WBC is a leftist invention. Phelps was a lifelong Democrat and Al Gore supporter, after all.
