It's healthy to have our military dependents treaty allies realize that, pact or no pact, American support is not guaranteed, so it would be wise for them to maintain independent military capabilities, not simply as a deterrent, but as a force that has to maintain their sovereignty if Uncle Sam unilaterally abrogates the defense pact.

By pulling America out from its role as a global power, Obama created a power vacuum. Nature abhors vacuums, and it is inevitable that opportunistic malefactors will rush in.
