The Tea Party Isn't Dying – The GOP Establishment Is
Townhall ^ | March 17,2014 | Kurt Schlichter

Posted on 03/17/2014 3:25:39 PM PDT by Hojczyk

The first opponent is the left. They still call us the “Tea Party,” though we rarely use that term anymore. It’s fun to hear the liberals say it – it’s like listening to grandparents trying to sound cool. Yeah, those hepcats are sure hip with their cool jive, daddy-o.

Every day, the lefty punditry opines about the Tea Party’s death spiral. And every day, the Tea Party refuses to crash and burn.

We conservative insurgents have another opponent, but this opponent recognizes us for exactly what we are – a dangerous, existential threat. This opponent is the GOP Establishment, and its members hate and fear us for entirely different reasons.

They want to gather power within Washington then redistribute it after they take their cut. We want to re-wire the system so that Washington is left off the grid to wither back down to the miserable backwater it used to be – and should be.

D.C. is awesomely wealthy, full of fine clothes, sumptuous food, gleaming restaurants, and much more attractive people than when I interned there in 1986. The recession missed Washington, a town that produces nothing except problems for the rest of America yet is better off than anywhere else in America.

We want to end that. That we want to destroy the cushy status quo is why the GOP Establishment hates us. That we can influence elections is why it fears us.

Paul’s appeal is as utterly inexplicable as is/ was Rubio’s

But I don’t think anyone, certainly no conservative Texan, ever accused perry of being a conservative

You must have missed a bunch of threads last election then. Because he had a texas fanbase screaming his ‘conservative’ virtues.

And his anti fence, guardasil, TTC and a dozen other fiascos were all just ‘twisted’ by evil leftist plants’ trying to tarnish his glowing patriotism.

Stupid ideological purity wars aren’t going to get our nation out of the dire trouble it is in. Winning elections will. And the TP better start to act like it.

Or you could just vote for dems so you can say 'my guy won!'

More importantly, America is dying.

I thought we already elected “The Won”?

For some people, a Marxist is corrupt enough. I guess others need to go whole hog and elect a RINO.

No, it is dead. We have to build a new America. The one we grew up in no longer exists.

It’s not semantics. It’s a mindset. One puts us on the eternal defense. Adopting the other puts us on offense. Lets offend.

You must be right

I guess I tuned them out

He’s clueless and doofus like.

I think the RNC is dragging these guys out and peeping them up. The former pres contenders. At least Gingrich said no. Maybe he knows the sight of him on the sofa with pelosi sealed his fate like an iron on patch

That was my big issue with Newt. I got past it...barely... but it SCREAMED RINO.

Yea, there were a bunch of freepers, many from TX that were fanatical in their claim of his conservatism. And that was exceeded only by their excuses for his flat out liberal actions on record.

you see them pop up from time to time, but their numbers shrunk. Most had to finally admit they were wrong.

IIRC, four of the five frontrunning challengers to Tinkerbelle’s Senate seat have signed a pact to support whoever among them is frontmost during the runoff.

We want Flimsey gone like you don’t know. Still can’t figure out how someone named Buddy Witherspoon lost against him in South Carolina in ‘08.

Watch for Flimsey to walk on stage somewhere with some sort of firearm. Maybe a .22 girl’s rifle with pink furniture.

Establishment has been dying for a long time and should be put to rest now.

The GOP establishment can’t die fast enough. I for one look forward to dancing on its fetid grave.

I don’t agree that either is dying. There is a fairly hostile equilibrium. Who survives? As they say in my world ... the jury is still out.

I look forward to Mr. Schlichter’s column every Monday at Townhall.com. He seems to see with a clarity that is rare among the pundit class, and he’s fairly funny to boot.

McCain learned to be a POW in Viet Nam. He has been one in the Senate. He just wants to survive until he’s rescued.

Ok. Well. I’ve met some of tge gentlemen who were at the Hanoi Hilton, they call it ‘jail’ for six and seven years. Perfect specimens of virtue, from what I can tell. To go through that and then be a senator, with huge decisions to make of historical importance? NO

Which is exactly why I argue so much on FR over sticking to principles. Willingness to accept ‘lesser evil’ resulted in our current situation with the GOP. IF that was a good idea, we’d be in paradise right now. Because we accepted so much of it it’s amazing.

If it’s a good idea then why has it destroyed us?

Lesser evil isn’t just an idea. It is people and those people have names. For all the cries of ‘hold feet to fire’ I heard last election, I see damn few of the people screaming it...doing it.

Had they principle, they would be doing it. Logical conclusion? they have no principles.
