Posted on 03/17/2014 8:19:55 PM PDT by MeshugeMikey
In 2012, in a proceeding straight out of the Inquisition, an Italian court convicted six scientists for providing "inexact, incomplete and contradictory information" in the lead-up to the earthquake. Now, a philosophy professor says that case may provide a worthwhile example for the treatment of scientific dissentersspecifically, "climate deniers who receive funding as part of a sustained campaign to undermine the publics understanding of scientific consensus."

Perhaps we should criminalize philosophical disagreements.
“When all you’ve got is a hammmer.....”
Well, ya know the rest..!!
The 2nd Amendment protects the First, as they say.
Facts? Facts? We don’t need no dirty, stink in’ facts!
I’ll bet he rips the Catholic church over Galileo though.
All science is dissent.
This philosopher is not bright enough to catch on to the fact that if something like this went to court, it would clarify just where the misinformation is coming from.
There might just be one or two leftists in positions of authority who understand.
Just another otherwise unemployable parasite. Another typical bald-haired hippie.
Have another hit of acid!
The person is not a scientist, real scientists are all about disproving each other’s ideas, it is the whole method of science not to accept theories without real proof
They must not teach the scientific method to philosophers. The man is ignorant.
Unfortunately he becomes the negative stereotype people remember
If Dr. Larry is going to opine on the philosophy of science, he should at least read the seminal work on that matter, namely The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas Kuhn.
BTW, Dr. Larry, they locked up Galileo for denying what the 99% consensus of existing scientists had to say about the fundamental settled science of astronomy, but the earth continued to rotate around the sun anyway.
BTW, a few of the other scientists who correctly bucked the 99% consensus were, Louis Pasteur, Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, Alfred Wegener, Antoine Lavoisier, and Robin Warren and Barry J. Marshall. Fortunately, Dr. Larry wasnt in charge of jailing scientific heretics during those times, or otherwise we would be living in a far different and a far
poorer world than today.
"Lawrence Torcello? Naw, that's too confusing, we're calling you Bruce like the rest of the Bruce's."
They think philosophy is just a silly as religion.
He thinks I should be imprisoned for dissenting loudly about human caused global warming, climate change, or whatever they call it this week.
And I think anyone who tries to imprison anyone for saying what they think should be shot dead as a tyrant.
But that’s just me.
Legalize the hunting of intellectuals.
” it is the whole method of science not to accept theories without real proof”
And he’s going to let “lack of proof” stop him? A philosopher is somebody who can’t figure out whether or not he even exists.
Government re-education camps.
Something we can all look forward too. :D
I want to criminalize disagreement among philosophers. Anyone who doesn’t follow the Aristotelian line should be jailed.
Verily, philosophy can tell us much. I shared the learned professor’s views. I feel the same way about geocentric heresy which is counter to Scripture, tradition and the everyday evidence of our experience. Philosophy tells us that there must be but seven planets, just as there are seven holes in the head (two eyes, two ears, two nostrils and the mouth). The Creator would not allow the superlunary to ever change or decay, therefore comets must be disturbances in the atmosphere. ‘Tis utter nonsense to think that God would allow planets to move in anything other than perfect circular orbits, despite the Keplerian heresy.
Anyone who questions these assertions should be adjudged a heretic, burnt at the stake, and his possessions given to the Church, and his family should become mendicant vagabonds and denied any offers or means of a livelihood.
Wow. Just wow. WOW. I used to live in a country where the kind of people who said these kind of things usually occupied a stool down at the far end of the bar.
I see where Tar and Feathers Futures have gone though the roof since this announcenent!
“Think Right or Think Re-Eduction”
no limits....no specific season.... IM THERE!!
Too bad we can’t criminalize stupidity.
Oceania Rules the Sea!!
Lawrence is reputed to be a secret agent for the Ministry Of Silly Walks
we might well still be living in caves.. is “Dr’ Larry had held sway back in the shadowy distant past.
Hes as much a Scientist as Al Sharpton....who fairly recently admitted he ddnt know nuthin bout no Galeyo..
There he IS!!!
Professor Larry- The Hardest Workin Man in the silly walks business
we step out of line at our own peril,....
there we have it.
Ensconced in the ivory tower wearing his che guevera t shirt and Pinwheel Beanie!
It’s absolutely consistent.
In the heart of every leftist is the fondest wish of using the government to punish, and ultimately to kill, anyone that expresses a viewpoint challenging the leftist worldview.
“Intellectuals” in the sense of the Thomas Sowell definition -
those who produce nothing but ideas, and never have any consequences for the results of those bad ideas.
the professor is criminally ignorant
old tagline - "Intellectuals only exist if you think they do."
“All science is dissent.”
But rather than seek TRUTH, THEY rather believe things like... all of a sudden, even though they don’t know WHEN, there was a Big Bang, and then Poof...there everything was. And up to this day, they still believe it. Now currently, global warming.
A very vulgar display of “the failure of the human condition”, I say. It’s “criminal’ in and of itself for anyone to get a paying job teaching such malarkey as “philosophy”, or any of those useless, worldly views, let alone have to listen their shamblabbery. It’s languages of the devil...who IS a Liar.
No different than the discombobulated medical field. One day something is bad for you, and then all of of sudden, it’s GOOD for you...even though it’s still “bad” for you.
I expect that if they ever got their wish of ridding the world of us “peasants”, it wouldn’t be long after that they would also cease to exist, as well. For obvious reasons.
