Yes, he is unelected. The EU’s chief bureaucrat. He looks like a paper clip with glasses. He would like to regulate you, too!

"Would Lincoln and his Unionists have cared what Europeans thought about war Against Confederate Secession?"

From the little that I know of the history of that war (by comparison to most American Freepers), I believe that both Lincoln and Davis cared a great deal about what European nations might do about it. Davis was counting on British intervention. Britain, and other nations wisely chose to remain mainly neutral.

The "thought about" thing is different. Public opinion mattered less to those European monarchies of yesteryear, than it does to a fractious democracy (or republic -- whichever label you prefer), such as today's U.S.A.

The only thing the two have in common is they’re both protesting. OWJ is as similar to Maidan as it is to Tea Party protests or any other large gathering.

Maidan had ten times as many people as Occupy (MAXIMUM I see on wiki for OWS is 30,000). Maidan was able to produce hundreds of thousands week after week, in the middle of a Ukrainian winter. There is also such a thing as “critical mass” when a protest can longer be ignored or discounted by the authority because it’s just too many people. For US, the equivalent number would have to be 2 Million people for weeks on end (300,000/45Million x 300 Million). I can’t imagine 2 million Americans descending on Washington DC every Sunday. The Congress and President, they wouldn’t be able to just ignore those kind of numbers. (To be fair, America and the West wouldn’t be able to match Ukraine’s numbers because those are democratic countries. You know Obama will be gone in 2 years and there will be a fair shot at the getting the leader you want. )

Second point - the OWS hippies, they had no resolve. On November 30, Yanukovych sent the cops to clear out Maidan, then on December 11, then January 20, and then the final massacre on Feb 19-20. OWS on the other hand, were pussies. It’s almost offensive you would compare the two.

Regarding your last paragraph, I can’t imagine who else the NGOs or the media would target as the cause of Ukraine’s dire situation, if not the former president (Oh, forgot, the Jews) Yanek centralized the government, he was the face of the government, all key positions were filled up by the loyalists from his hometown.

I like him too...unfortunately much of it’s also theater even if the truth. He’s had a price on his head for awhile...likely why our reps never oppose anything.

You might be correct because some European countries were on the verge of recognizing the CSA but I don’t think that would have affected the hostilities nor the outcome. And did Castro care what our position was; Cuba was just 90 miles away. Did Mao care about us & did the French care what England and Germany thought?
I think they only truly care if there is possibility the others might get into the hostilities which leads to a much bigger war.

I prefer my term because I made it up when I decided that ‘The war of Northern Aggression’ didn’t quite describe what was going on.

I think we’re in agreement, though, overall. It was an illegal action by Abraham Lincoln and the Union thugs.
