You called it the “only thing” while also stating that it’s not the only thing. Don’t forget about scrapping the welfare state.

We can compete just fine with China’s labor pay so long as the economies of scale make things competitive. Focus on quality has to be strong as well.

Initiatives like the one described in this thread are doomed to failure because it’s government trying to create jobs.

No I didn't. I suggested lowering income taxes, but that alone will not bring manufacturing. Only the import tariffs will have a big enough impact. I specifically pointed out that you could eliminate all income taxes and regulations and still not be able to compete. Only an import tariff will do.

This plan will scrap the welfare state. When people have jobs, they will get off of the unemployment and the food stamps. Until then, you can't scrap the welfare state. Trying to scrap the welfare state without first fixing the economy will just cost you elections and we will have even more socialist, redistributors and communists voted into office at all levels.

Free traders are enabling big government, because they are the cause of the high unemployment and the high dependency on government.

Our founding fathers thought import tariffs were wise. And they served us well until we abandoned them in the 1960's.
