Allies counting on the U.S. nuclear umbrella will be sorely disappointed when Americans have no belly to pull the trigger. The status quo is more secure when threats against sovereignty can be repelled with nuclear weapons. If you had the responsibility for the sovereignty of Taiwan, would you already have a nuclear weapons program in-place?
