Belarus to make efforts to normalize Ukrainian-Russian relations

MINSK, March 20, 6:30 /ITAR-TASS/. Belarus cannot remain indifferent to the situation in Ukraine, Crimea's referendum on March 16 and its decision to join Russia, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday March 19.

"Belarus, Russia and Ukraine are brotherly states linked by common centuries-old history," the statement said. "Outside forces have repeatedly tried to play on and exploit contradictions that emerged between us."

"At present, the attempts by politicians who actually do not care about the events happening in the region to decide what is good and what is bad for our Slav peoples cause deep concern."

Taking into account the present-day reality, the Republic of Belarus objects to one-sided and biased interpretation of principles of international law in favor of geopolitical interests and attempts to announce certain international situations and territories unique while ignoring others.

Minsk believes that "theorizing on this topic means driving the problem into a corner. "Belarus will make all efforts towards returning Ukrainian-Russian relations to brotherly and good neighborly ones, helping find options to settle all the existing contradictions and preventing armed confrontation," the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.

Belarus is offering good offices to settle differences between Russia and Ukraine - but given the depth of bitterness and the estrangement between the latter two countries, reconciling them appears to be a tall order. Belarus is uniquely qualified to play the role of peacemaker in the eastern Slavic family. Its not clear if its proffered role as a go-between can facilitate a way out of the present crisis.

I doubt there will be any headway with the NWO putschists in Kiev, but I don’t think they will have much staying power. After they are gone things will normalize. This whole turn of events was provoked by western degenerates.

Riiiight. Belarus is such the model state. Another Soviet rump.

You’re doing a good job of replacing Pravda. Keep it up!

BS. Belarus is being told to keep out of this so they can serve as a way for Russia to “sanctions bust”. They can also serve as a clandestine route to invade Ukraine from the north should the need arise (for Russia).

You’re unreal. Belarus is the worst dictatorship and worst example of crony capitalism in Europe today. You say it’s nation’s name as if it were not in an advanced stage of Putinism with one man rule. Lukashenko rules that nation as if he wants it to be North Korea. You’re getting to be a satire with your propaganda.

Belarus is uniquely qualified to teach others how to suppress the ordinary citizen.

Vladimir Vladimirovich! Welcome to FR, Mr. President! I must commend you on your shirtless horseback riding and the brilliant execution of the Sochi Olympics. You may not be aware, but FreeRepublic is a community of "Western degenerates," mostly of a pro-freedom, pro-capitalism, pro-limited government bent.

The Putin plan is to intimidate and create an up roar such that the absorption of Crimea will be lost in the fear of absorption of all of Ukraine and Lithuania.

The press fails to consider the most important element...... time

Crimea now, the others later, perhaps much later

Here in the US...but the rest of the world isn't like the US, and no matter what we do, it will never be like the US. Arab States will never be like the US...Russia is a completely different culture, what works here, doesn't necessarily work there.
