‘Rape Culture’ Fanatics Don’t Know What a Culture Is
National Post ^ | March 18, 2014 | Barbara Kay

Posted on 03/20/2014 5:35:47 AM PDT by SAVEOURSOULS

In today’s edition of the Post, there is a very thoughtful and serious discussion of whether the phenomena of “rape culture” even exists. It will no doubt receive the usual stream of invective — accusations of trivializing rape, denying that sexual assaults occur, implying that women who drank too much deserved to be raped. Hardly real criticisms in any intellectual sense, but they will come. These critics — that seems almost too kind a descriptor for them, but alas — don’t seem to understand that a denial of rape culture is not a denial that rape exists or an expression of indifference to the pain it causes its victims. The world is imperfect. Bad or disturbed people commit crimes, including rape; good, well-adjusted people don’t. My heart breaks for children killed by their guardians, and in a perfect world none ever would be, but even 100 children dead at the hands of their parents does not make Canada a child-killing culture, or anyone who’d say so a child-murder denier. Indeed, the more closely one follows the increasingly hysterical volleys of rhetorical fire back and forth on this issue, the more apparent it becomes that those who speak of a rape culture don’t understand what the word “culture” actually means. To result in a “culture,” a phenomenon must be widely accepted as the norm. It is culturally normal in some countries for women to be virtual chattels, governed by patriarchal standards of honour; to be married against their will; to meet blame from their kinsmen and indifference or even hostility at law enforcement and court levels when reporting sexual assault; to be shunned as unmarriageable — or worse — for the “shame” of having been raped, and so forth. There we can legitimately speak of a “rape culture.”

But over a million abortions a year does make the US.

But over a million abortions a year does make the US.

Women talked themselves into the righteousness of abortion by saying that it gave them "control over their own bodies."

Why did they have sex without birth control then?

My read is that there was/is generations of spoiled young women who just don't give a darn about anything but their own whims and desires. The ultimate ME people.

It shows me how LITTLE Christian values inculcate the lives of young American women.

Those un-Christian values didn't show up out of nowhere. They were inculcated by their families, schools and general culture.

Christianity has been reduced down to being “nice”

The author makes a great point: Saying something is part of our culture implies that our society finds it acceptable. Rape is not acceptable. Therefore we don't have a "rape culture". People who say we do are wrong and should be called out on it.

That would be like saying all Democrats are womanizers just because JFK, Ted Kennedy, ok every Kennedy, Clinton, Edwards, Gore, Filner, Weiner, Spitzer, ....hmm....

Another thing to watch out for is people equating other things to rape, like an unwanted text or a spurned proposition. Those are not rape and should not be lumped in with actual rapes. The best description I saw of what rape does to its victim was from a women who said she felt like she had died but still had to get up every morning. Living with a rape victim leads me to believe that was an apt description.

The examples you listed above make it clear why liberal women think all men are pigs. It’s because all of THEIR men are.

They are going the way of the dodo, being replaced by Thrid World populations that value families/children (much more quickly than the government will admit - but you can see for yourself in any schoolyard or playground). This change is taking place very rapidly, and like the blacks finding out in 2000 that the Hispanic population that was projected to surpass them in 2010 that it had already happened, it will be too late for “Americans” to do anything about it when it happens in 2020 instead of the projected 2050 date.

Obama’s election in 2008 was a result of a brilliant campaign by the leftist media against a horrible Republican candidate; his re-election in 2012 coincided with the news that more white people were dying every day than being born. Without major changes, the Third World imports will be electing left-wing presidents from this point forward...

You are correct in general terms. We may have a small rape “subculture”. The subculture consists of the defense bar who defends rapists. Let's face it. There is “he said, she said” and there is a legit. defense need there. But there is the monster who does not even pretend to know the victim and causes injury etc. The defense can only use the “she was asking for it defense.” The defense will use any means to paint the woman as “easy” or some sort of slut.
Everyone deserves a defense but I could not present a “good” defense for these monsters. I know victims of rape. You and others are correct in relating the lifetime damage it causes.

The "Hispanics" are predominantly Mexicans. And believe me, they don't WANT to be Americans. They just want the money they can earn here.

A Mexican man can work HERE for three months and live on that for the other NINE months in Mexico.

I know this because I lived and worked in Mexico City for two years. Most of my relatives are there. I have over 50 cousins there.

They DON'T want to be gringos but they know that they HAVE to speak English, so they have TONS of schools and classes teaching English.

As for work, there are HUGE numbers of Mexicans who live on the Mexico side and work north across the line, doing whatever. The women are often house cleaners. The men will do whatever.

There are thousands of braceros who are brought into California every late summer to harvest crops for the American growers. AMERICAN workers won't do it for less than minimum wage, and sometimes, NO amount of money can get Americans to pick fruit. Why should they when they get the free handout, without lifting a finger, from Uncle Sam via welfare?

Finally, the DRUG BUSINESS is so huge because the American market is so huge. We give them the impetus to grow and transport all the illegal drugs.

In my area many of the illegals are Peruvian and Ecuadoran, with some Central Americans as well. I know across the country the majority are Mexican, but eventually Mexico will run out of people to export; today 1/10 of all people born in Mexico already live in the US.

The bracero program is monitored/administered by our government (at least it used to be); I remember when schools were set up for their children during their seasons here. Americans will do any work when the wages are determined by true supply & demand; the agricultural sector simply skirts that to keep labor costs low. Long before Mexicans were swarming across the border, Americans worked as farmers all over this country.
