The Liberation of Sharyl Attkisson

Sharyl Attkisson - True Journalist

Sharyl Attkisson has been “liberated” from her post at CBS, finally resigning after months of rumors of a rocky relationship with the broadcast news company. It turns out that she planned on leaving CBS a full year ago, but was persuaded not to at the time. Now the American mainstream media have lost one of the greats of modern journalism.

According to her CBS biography, Attkisson received several Emmys for her work at CBS, but not all was well in her relationship, as she began to be utilized less and less on the nightly news. “Andrew Tyndall’s quantitative analyses of network news trends” shows that Attkisson had 160 minutes of nightly news exposure in 2007. This had dropped to 54 minutes in 2013, according to Erik Wemple with The Washington Post.

Attkisson told Fox News in a brief interview that this wasn’t about her getting air time, but “the idea that so few of the incredibly interesting and important original and investigative topics I brought to the table, often exclusively, could find no home at CBS in the past three years or so.”

Regrettably, there have been longstanding suggestions in the liberal media that Attkisson was biased, and that’s why she didn’t exactly fit in. “Attkisson is a dogged reporter, driven by a strong skepticism of government,” wrote POLITICO in 2013. “Her drive can produce great journalism, but it can also cause her to push stories to the point that colleagues, especially those of a more progressive bent, suspect a political agenda.” The key here is the phrase “those of a more progressive bent.”

Attkisson was...

The lamestream media has lost a journalist, but perhaps a new voice has been liberated to become a light to be shined on the dark corners of the Current Regime. For sure CBS was never going to let her go there.

She hasn’t been “freed”, she’s been silenced.
Whatever forum she goes to won’t have as large a microphone as CBS News, and a CLEAR message has been sent to those that would dare to stand against whatever the current Democrat Current Truth happens to be.

Was hoping she would be at Fox by now. Wonder if she has a contract payoff and can’t go elsewhere for a period of time?

. “Her drive can produce great journalism, but it can also cause her to push stories to the point that colleagues, especially those of a more progressive bent, suspect a political agenda.”

The only reason her colleagues saw this as an issue was that the political agenda didn’t match their own. In fact, this author basically confirmed that her colleagues have a progressive political bent!

It depends on how you define “silenced”. I didn’t even know that CBS was still on the TV. Haven’t watched a single program on CBS in about 10 years, let alone their “news” section. This meant I also missed her.
I don’t like my intelligence being insulted.
She’ll be back, somewhere.

Regrettably, there have been longstanding suggestions in the liberal media that Attkisson was UNbiased, and that’s why she didn’t exactly fit in. Fixed it for them

“Attkisson is a dogged reporter, driven by a strong skepticism of government,”

Isn't that what a good reporter is supposed to do? I always looked at a story and "Really, now why should I believe that?

We wonder if the fact that the president of CBS News, David Rhodes, is the brother of Ben Rhodes—who was Obama’s Deputy National Security Advisor,

I don't believe there's anything at all to wonder about, I'd bet David got the word from 0bama through Ben and it was spelled out plainly.

You can bet your ass Obama is spying on Sharyl, wanting to learn what she knows and who she’s talking to.

Is it how many people tune in, or how many listen and comprehend that counts?

I doubt the typical CBS consumer had a clue what she was talking about. She's better off finding a place where not only her co-workers but her audience also appreciates her reporting. I believe she will.

Excellent point, she was not biased, so they were uncomfortable around here.

Isn’t that pathetic? Journalism has truly lost it’s way.

I think she is limited in seeking other employment in two ways - she must wait for a time to be hired by someone else, probably 6 months or one year.

She is probably also limited in what stories she can publish if she started the investigation while at CBS, CBS will claim she cannot report on stories not yet published but investigated while at CBS.

Try clicking on the little envelope in the left hand column popout on the Contact page. See if that works for sending her an email.

What is she complaining about? We have the Kardashians and profiles of contestants on The Greatest Race, Big Brother and Survivor to fill the airtime. Priorities!

Well, she’ll be able to use this time to finish her book and do the book promos in the media. I doubt CBS can keep her from selling her book.
