Days after being threatened with eviction by the city of Durango, the Durango Gun Club, a nonprofit, is dropping its new requirement that each of its 700 members join the National Rifle Association.
Though the Durango Gun Club is private, it has leased its Florida Road indoor shooting range from the city since 1963 at no charge. Its other facility, an outdoor range near Bodo Industrial Park, is on property leased from La Plata County for $1 a year. . . . .
In his letter to the city, Malarsie writes it was never the clubs intention or purpose to promote or advance what you describe as the NRAs extreme political agenda, but simply to qualify for generous NRA grants that might finance improvements to the clubs ranges.

My local indoor range encourages NRA membership by offering a discount to members, but they don’t mandate membership.
Get anyone who calls the NRA “extremist” out of your club ASAP.The last thing anyone needs is antiConstitutionalists honing their skills.
Get City Manager Ron LeBlanc out of office. the last thing you need is a fascists boot on your neck.
NRA membership protects he club in tort litigation.
I’m more of a GOA man, myself.
What a crock! The NRA's agenda is Bush moderate at best.
City manager Ron LeBlanc needs to be fired immediately, and told to his arrogant face why he’s being fired. There was a lot of NRA bashing on a thread here yesterday. I wonder if the NRA bashers will show up here.
First the attack was against the Boy Scouts, and now it is to strip away at the NRA.
The leftists figure that Republicans and conservatives liked the Boy Scouts and the NRA, so in their perpetual campaign “to hate and to hurt”, they lash out.
Democrats, the political party of hate and hurt.
Does GOA financially support any gun clubs, and defend your 2nd Amendment rights, or do they just beg you for more money?
You should find out for yourself.
One thing they don't do is collaborate with gun-grabbers in the interest of go-along, get-along politics.
I don’t belive they spent 10-100 Million on a fancy new HQ like some other (Every Day is a Emergency- URGENT CASH NEEDED) Organization that likes to go wobbly at times.
BTW I am a Life Member in Both.
Truth be told, the NRA is probably one of the LEAST ‘extreme’ organizations to which I belong.
They may have had to be 100% or at least majority NRA members in order to get insurance. My cowboy shooting group used to have to do that.
I did find out when I was GOA member. They sent me more begging letters than NRA ever did. I doubt most leftist politicians know what GOA is.
Really? I routinely started my fireplace insert using just the junk mail from the NRA.
NRA sends me plenty of begging letters. GOA sent more.
