Y’know, ever since the whole mess in Ukraine started, I’ve been reminded of a scene from the movie Rocky. The scene where a local tv reporter is filming Rocky punching sides of frozen beef with a vengeance.
Apollo’s trainer: “Champ, better come take a good look at this guy you’re gonna be fighting. I think he means business.”
Apollo (distracted by public relations, trivial agendas, and every else but the important matter at hand): “yeah, yeah, I mean business, too.”
Apollo’s trainer: (deep look of concern)
“Somebody better send some aloe vera to Obama cuz he just got burned.”
(Phone rings)
Putin: Who’s there?
Obama: “It’s me again, President Putin. I demand you remove your troops from Crimea.”
Putin: “President Obama, I demand you remove your military base from Guantanamo in Cuba and your military from Okinawa.”
Obama: “What happens in the Western Hemisphere stays in the Western Hemisphere. It’s none of your business.”
Putin: “What happens in the Eastern Hemisphere stays in the Eastern Hemisphere. It’s none of your business.”
Obama: “But France and Germany say ...”
Putin: “France, Germany, pfft. France, the white flag bearer ... With Germany we’d been there, done that, remember 1941-45? Is momma Merkel sure to want going there again?”
Obama: “Well, I drew the red line, I’m muffed you ignore it.”
Putin: “Oh, no, not that again. Red lines, red schmlines, what are you, a communist? Ha!” (Click.)
Obama’s going to have to do something serious now. He’s considering calling ESPN and asking them to remove Putin’s bracket from the tournament challenge.
His advisers agree that nobody, even Putin, can be “presidential” without ESPN brackets this time of year? On the other hand, Obama’s bracket may beat Putin’s, and that would give him an advantage the next time they meet to discussion other significant international matters.
Putin’s right. There’s no need for further retaliation. The sanctions levied against Russia were symbolic, nothing more than a non-punitive reprimand. Were happy. Russia’s happy. Crimea’s happy. Everyone’s happy -except, of course, the neo-Nazis in Kiev.
Putin is telling us Americans that our president is useless..
Somebody has to, lord knows the Republicans won't do it.
