Are Larry Page, Jerry Yang, and Larry Ellison pulling their philanthropic weight?
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | March 21, 2014 | By Joe Garofoli

We often write about the generosity of philanthropists. But what about rich folks who are giving — but not really pulling their weight?

Inside Philanthropy’s calls out some billionaires not because they’re not giving, but because they’re not giving ENOUGH based on how much cash they’ve got stuffed in the mattress. While The Chronicle of Philanthropy annually drops its list of the top 50 donors, Inside Philanthropy took a different approach.

Instead of just looking at how much an individual is giving away, IP is using “relative generosity as our main criteria here, looking at what percentage of their wealth a person has given away.”

Once. Just once I wish I could see some liberal rag moan and groan not on the amount of wealth some billionaire has given away.

But instead how much wealth has been TAKEN away. By our idiots in DC.

Wow. Just Wow. The gall to look at donors and gripe that they don’t give enough. I suppose it was a natural progression from griping that “the rich” don’t pay enough taxes.

Sorry...I prefer that talented entrepreneurs and creative geniuses use their wealth to help create more wealth. I have no idea how much these folks may donate to charities; nor is it any of my business. Some people prefer to do the their giving in a quiet fashion.

And of course the SF Croyn-barnicle knows better than anyone else in the multiverse how to spend your money.

Shove it up your smelly collective Obamaholes, SFC libs.

They made the money, not you.

Which is why all of you are in slug jobs as journalists...a profession which no longer has integrity or honor.

Although I share your sentiments, I can’t totally feel sorry for the idiots this guy is going after, since they are great supporters of Obama and are all in favor of redistribution.

I just wish they would learn their lesson and fight back.

By far the biggest contribution they make to society is not what they “give back” (I totally detest that phrase), but what they’ve given to society through their inventions and products. That is the REAL contribution and society should be forever grateful rather than covet their personal wealth.

Larry Ellison took 300 Mil from the government to make a non working Oregon Obamacare website that hasn’t been able to sign up a single person. He deserves whatever wrath is thrown at him.

People who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Before we question the “ philanthropic weight” of people who have created hundreds of thousands of jobs, let us first see to what extent the executives of the Mainstream Media are “ pulling their philanthropic weight.”

Precisely!

Leaving a bequest to a charitable foundation is one thing — removing capital from the rare individuals, who know how to use it productively, is not helping anyone.

Did Steve Jobs pull his philanthropic weight? None of my g-d business. Might affect my postmortem evaluation of the inevitable biographies, but still none of my business.

Well, I do know that B0 Soebarkah talks about sharing wealth and being our brothers’ keepers.

He is wealthy, but has a brother living on a few dollars a month, and a sister who died in poverty.

Why not do a story on that creep.

It’s their money, they can do with it what they wish. It’s none of our business.
