You are so arrogant and know so little. Solzhenitsyn loved the strengths of the West. That is why he made a point of visiting Senator Jesse Helms in person. Read his Harvard speech! Read Cancer Ward! To make a sweeping statement like Solzhenitsyn “dispised the West” is idiotic. He dispised the useful idiot version of the West.

Solzhenitsyn despised what he saw the West becoming, decadent.

Putin defends Western Culture and Christianity:
video, 2 min 45 seconds

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSX2ALtIejw

EVERY time I listen to Hollywood and the Dems they’re saying Christians are Nazis, devils, sick & disgusting people.

And I hear the opposite from Putin.

Gold state, I don’t know how old you are, but our memories our old nemesis differ greatly. I remember 100 divisions of combined arms aimed at the heart of Europe, and 13 warheads per mid sized city in the US. Russia is nothing close to the old cccp, and that is a good thing.

They are a paper tiger puffed up on artificially high oil prices. Had it not been for Obama/pelvis I and $10t in new debt binding our hands, this would be a joke.

The consumer materialism, the lack of faith, the breakdown of traditional values - all those where things that turned Solzhenitsyn off about the West. He thought its freedom was a double-edged sword. Yes the West stood up against the Soviet Union but that didn’t mean a free Russia was going to copy the West. And it hasn’t.

Teddy wasn’t a victim in d deficient poser. He was a combat leader, hunter, ranch hand, and us president.

A typical Russian supermarket today.

A Soviet grocery store in 1986.

In my youth, the USSR was on its deathbed with a succession of geriatric leaders. A younger Gorbachev could not stem its decline. And then it disappeared through a process that has no known historical precedent. Russia is a great power but is nowhere as powerful and feared as the Soviet Union was back in the day.

Yes, he did say, “The West suffers from the spiritual impotence that comes from a life of ease”. And I agree with that with certain caveats.

Alabama professor Forrest McDonald said of the World War II veterans who had often grown up under tough conditions that they wanted to make sure their kids had it better than they had. So according to McDonald, “they proceeded to raise the worst generation of spoiled brats” known up to that time.

Life is easier and better today for Russians than it was in the Soviet time.

Free markets and consumer choice work. Central planning and induced scarcity doesn’t.

The Soviet Union is never coming back again.

Russia has billionaires and gazillionaires.

And it has a 13% flat tax. You don’t have income redistribution.

That poster’s hero worship is sick.

Yes, if not for being a long time poster, I would assume he was posting from the disinformation department of the Kremlin. He's been pimping Putin and selling absurd Russkie propaganda all over various threads for awhile now.

(In Russia today there is cronyism, corruption, poor education in rural areas)

You know what? I think you make great points --I agree with you completely.

Anyone who says Russia is some paradise or not riven with corruption is fooling himself.

But if I'm hard on Putin's Russia, I should also take notice of the utterly foreign USA that I see emerging --scripted press conferences, rampant cronyism, SWAT tactics against Joe Six Pack, pandemic spying on utterly innocent people, and secretly widespread unemployment even as Wall Street hits unprecedented highs.

But those aren't the most glaring parts. There is more:

Our forefathers were unfeeling conquerors, America was founded on an inherently kleptocratic blueprint, we wish ill on the rest of the world, and Christianity is just intolerance of people not exactly like ourselves.

In view of such carefully-crafted, filthy self-hatred within our OWN GATES, how can I even take notice of Putin...?

When he speaks, I must advance the utterly bizarre claim that this KGB insect sounds more American THAN THE PRESIDENT OF THE USA.

And I hear the opposite from Putin.

Only if you're Russian Orthodox which, by the way, is run by a known snitch and KGB agent who was elected to the seat of Patriarch. (All of the candidates for the position of Patriarch were, in fact, traitors and KGB agents.) Baptist, Pentecostal, other churches, get bullied by government officials, have their churches vandalized, etc., until they are driven out. We've heard a little of this reported in Crimea with a Greek Catholic being kidnapped and then pinned with phony charges. (He owned body armor, which the Russkies claimed was illegal, even though there is no law against owning body armor.) Same tactic Putin uses against other organizations and individuals he does not like in Russia.

"...Solzhenitsyn despised what he saw as the West (becoming) decadent..." Yes, he had been through the wringer in such ways (the front in WWII, the Gulag, and critical hospital stays) that he had little patience for those flippant trendy types and "lazy journalists". photo ASincampdudsafterrelease_zps0bdbe249.jpg
