I went with a relative to a Baptist church in Tulsa, last night, for their Celebrate Recovery program, and from what I saw, it didn’t seem that way.

There also was a neighbor that moved in nearby and I found out that she was working at a recovery facility and she was a former drug addict. In just the few weeks that she’s been in the neighborhood, she already zeroed in on a relative (here) that is not doing well “in recovery” and she was able to do more to help (it seemed to me) than we’ve been able to do in a couple of years.

NOW ... here I’m talking about voluntary programs, but I’ve also seen that the “mandated programs” where the person is forced into the program by the legal system, you will see many there who are still doing their drugs right in the middle of the program itself.

But, no one can cut through the drug addicts excises quicker than a former addict who is working with them. That’s what I’ve seen.

I think bringing in Matt Foley would help.

Agree with your reply. In many recovery programs, it is a requirement to get a councilers job, that the counciler has a certain number of years under his/her belt, as a recovering addict.

I can agree with that as long as they are recovered. If they’re still an addict they uually become an enabler. That’s what I’ve seen. Unfortunately too many times.
