The Ebola virus has been identified as the cause of an outbreak of haemorrhagic fever now believed to have killed nearly 60 people in southern Guinea, government officials say.

Scores of cases have been recorded since the outbreak began early last month.

There is no known cure or vaccine for the highly contagious Ebola virus.

It is spread by close personal contact with people who are infected and kills between 25% and 90% of victims.

Symptoms include internal and external bleeding, diarrhoea and vomiting.

True, the bushmeat (primates hunted for food) was infected. The monkeys and chimps so infected likely caught the virus from eating fruit the bats had ‘dropped’ on. It turns out the bats are considered a delicacy, too.

Lest we forget, the lizard expert Dr. Eric Pianka, in a speech before the Texas Academy of Science, opined that it would be a *good* thing were 90% of humanity to be killed off with some form of pulmonary ebola.

He received a standing ovation. From an audience some of whom might eventually have the technological acumen to bring to life Pianka’s apocalypse.

That’s pretty much all you need to know about radical environmentalists. (I would like to also note that Pianka was a *poor* scientist, knew little or nothing about epidemiology or virology, and was embraced by leftist academia solely because of his leftist radicalism. He currently resides in Hell, because I doubt that heavenly grace would extend to those who would wipe out mankind. Good riddance to bad rubbish.)

No, because you have to eat infected people to get Kuru.

Make it airborne and you got a winner. As a side note, Ebola Reston was airborne but apparently not contagious to humans, just monkeys.

That provides limited assurance, unless you also have country of origin on the meat. From the wiki article on ebola:
“Since the initial outbreak in Reston, Virginia, it has since been found in non-human primates in Pennsylvania, Texas and Siena, Italy. In each case, the affected animals had been imported from a facility in the Philippines, where the virus has also infected pigs.”

If the meat is from China, all bets are off.

I have no idea if typical cooking kills this virus.

Kuru is caused by a prion, and is similar to mad cow disease.

I take it you won't be lining up to try a sample of Walker, the beer Dock Street Brewing Company will offer for the March 30 season finale of The Walking Dead.

It's made with roasted goat brainzzzzzzzz.

Richard Preston’s The Hot Zone was all I cared to read about ebola vitus, Marbug virtus, and Reston virus. Terrifying, that and Kitum cave.

The Muslims are selling the infected people as meat.
