In a constituent meeting gone awry that was captured on shaky, amateur video, embattled Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) berated a group of local activists who oppose amnesty legislation, suggesting they were racist and saying they didn't have “any damn facts.”
“You're telling me what people have told you? You don't have any damn facts!” Ellmers exploded at one of the activists when he said that employers – who often claim a labor shortage to argue for amnesty – frequently don't post job openings in that region.
“Facts – numbers. Facts – documents,” Ellmers lectured, her voice dripping with disdain. She went on to attribute the activist's views to “resentment...because of a personal issue that you experienced,” later referring to a local company that had laid off workers. “I know where your hatred and vitriol is coming from,” she added.
The incident is the second time in a little more than a week that Ellmers has suffered an embarrassing public outburst over the immigration issue – the first coming March 13 in an interview with nationally syndicated radio host Laura Ingraham, whom Ellmers called “ignorant” and “small-minded.” She also ran into trouble when she claimed to have the same position on the issue as Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), only to have Lee's communications director publicly distance his boss from Ellmers' position.

I think she’s just going through her obligatory “I am woman, hear me roar!” phase. Give her a few more months of learning how to appeal to conservative money men. She will then realize that she has ‘evolved’ on this topic. In other words, she’ll do a Rubio-like Act of Contrition.

So help me God.” Were you lying then or are you lying now?
A friend sent me this yesterday after hit was sent to him by one of our state legislators (here in MA) Needless to say, my jaw hit the floor. I didn’t realize there was anyone left in government up here fighting the good fight! (He isn’t in my district, but I felt compelled to provide him with some support anyway, because I sure would vote for him)

Thank you for contacting me regarding driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants. I have been fighting this issue for years, with some recent success. Last session, I filed legislation to require any person who registers a car in Massachusetts to hold a driver’s license, a Social Security number, or other proof of legal residence. Previously, the RMV required applicants only to show a name, address, proof of insurance, and date of birth. If an applicant did not have a license at the time of registration, they would be given an X for the registration number.
The policy was ridiculous and I heard from many law enforcement officials who agreed.
In 2012, my bill to require any person who registers a car in Massachusetts to hold a driver’s license, a Social Security number, or other proof of legal residence was passed into law as an amendment to the state’s budget. It was done so despite a veto by the Governor. Now the Governor is trying to help illegal immigrants get a driver’s license. A driver’s license is a privilege. A privilege we normally take away when you break certain laws (drunk driving, drug offenses, failure to pay child support, not paying taxes, etc.) but now some on Beacon Hill want to give a license to people who break our immigration laws. It is absurd.
I will fight this as well.
To give you a better understanding of my commitment to this issue, please know that successfully fighting against X registrations is just one in a number of my efforts against giving illegal immigrants state benefits. In addition to frequently blocking efforts to provide in-state tuition to illegal immigrants, I have also filed legislation to prevent someone who is in the country illegally from getting public housing ahead of legal citizens. I was previously able to get this passed in the Senate, but it was blocked in the House.
In addition, I co-sponsored and helped to pass a comprehensive package of reforms in the Senate in 2010. The reforms would have done the things I already mentioned as well as: 1) Bar contractors from bidding on public contracts if they employ illegal immigrants; 2) Require businesses that contract with the state to verify immigration status of employees; 3) Create new penalties for falsifying a learner’s permit, driver’s license or state identification card; 4) Require MassHealth to check on a person’s immigration status before granting them insurance; 5) Require the Secretary of Labor to issue regulations for private workplace verification of immigration status; 6) Require the verification of immigration and/or citizenship status of any defendant arraigned in a state court, and; 7) Establish a toll-free hotline for people to confidentially report unlawful employment of illegal immigrants.
Frustratingly, most of these reforms were once again blocked in the House, but be assured that the battle continues and includes licenses for illegals.

I was so outraged by her predecessor’s arrogant tirade against a student journalist (recall “Who are youuuu?!!!”?) that I contributed to her campaign for the recount even though it’s not my district. This is sad irony for me.
