Muslims Welcome St. Paul Police Hijab

A leading US Muslim advocacy group has welcomed the new policy for Minneapolis’ St. Paul police which allows Muslim policewomen to don Islamic headscarf or hijab.

“We congratulate Chief Smith and the St. Paul Police Department for creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for Muslim employees,” CAIR-MN Executive Director Lori Saroya said in a statement obtained by OnIslam on Sunday, March 2.

“This decision will enable more Muslim women to consider serving their community through a career in law enforcement.”

On Saturday morning, Kadra Mohamed was recognized as the first Somali-American woman to join the St. Paul Police Department.

Mohamed was recognized at the police's Western District building during a graduation ceremony for youth who recently completed the East African Junior Police Academy.

“It's nerve-wracking in a way,” Mohamed, 21, said of being the first woman of Somali descent in the department, TwinCities.com reported.

“I want to be a good role model for others, especially Somali women.”

Mohamed said she contacted St. Paul police a few months ago to learn about becoming an officer. She said she expressed concerns over not being able to wear a hijab on duty.

In December, the police service in Edmonton, Ontario, approved the option for female officers of Muslim faith to wear a police-issued hijab.

St. Paul police Sgt. Tina Kill said St. Paul police contacted the Edmonton police, and they provided input on a hijab suitable for duty -- the final product of which Mohamed wore at Saturday's ceremony.

Praising St. Paul’s police move, Saroya said that Muslim women who wear the hijab sincerely believe it is their religious obligation and asking them to remove it is akin to asking them to remove a shirt or other piece of clothing.

Though there are no official figures, the United States is believed to be home to nearly seven million Muslims.

Islam sees hijab as an obligatory code of dress, not a religious symbol displaying one’s affiliations.

Right near Calgary, Quebec.

I wonder if Calgary Flames hockey players can speak French, being as they are in Quebec now? :-)

Guess if you can’t see the person’s face that arrests you, the arrest is null and void.

Same as along the line of ‘the accused being able to face the accuser’ in court.

Will they be able to testify in court wearing their garb?

Will I, as a ‘clown’, be allowed to role play at all times or will the ‘can’t enter a premises or wander around town with a mask covering your face’ rule be enacted?

These new ‘laws’ or ‘rules’ to accommodate any and all are bound to backfire on them, despite the good intentions.

Like the BO mismaladmistration saying YOU can keep your insurance for a couple of more years while they ‘iron’ out problems they didn’t see - how does that affect those who had aready cancelled OR had been cancelled.s/

As to the cops wearing masks or covering their face - If and when ‘they’ come after the citizenry, it will make it ‘easier’ to defend oneself - because the ‘personalization’ has been removed from the mix.

I wonder if the author realizes that Minneapolis and St Paul are two separate cities.

In the days after the 9/11/2001 when muslims massacred thousands of Americans who would have believed that we would have a federal government led by a muslim sympathizer in the presidency - or is he actually a closet muslim?

Who would have thought that we would have radical, terrorist supporting, muslims appointed to high level positions throughout the federal government by our muslim sympathizing president?

Who would have thought that we would have special work rules for muslims in markets, stores and businesses throughout America?

Who would have thought that we would have local and state governments, bureaucrats and law enforcement officer twisting themselves in knots to kiss the butts of muslims?

Who would have thought that we would have our taxpayer supported government schools brainwashing our children with pro-muslim propaganda?

Wonder how long it will take until one of them gets choked to death with her hijab? We’ll never know, because it will never be reported.

This female police officer should not be allowed to cover her face. We don't want our police covering their faces. That just wouldn't be right.

You're right. All those guys in the picture you posted look like your average group of thugs too ashamed of what they do to show their faces in public.
