Here's the Preamble to the Wisconsin State Constitution:

We, the people of Wisconsin, grateful to Almighty God for our freedom, in order to secure its blessings, form a more perfect government, insure domestic tranquility and promote the general welfare, do establish this constitution.

To hear any man identify himself as an atheist makes Christians feel uncomfortable.

How so?

To never hear a statesman speak of one’s faith in God would make Christians feel uncomfortable...

Sure wish you would just stick to speaking for yourself.

So, the bragging is not about our ability, but rather about Christ’s ability to see us through. The confidence is in Him, not us.

Thank you rusty.

I use the proper noun in consideration of your point; nonetheless, no intelligent person should claim to be an atheist.

Just two Christians or millions of Christians?

1. I didn’t say all Christians.

2. Then you are against the very idea of a statesman (one who is typically a representative of many others’s views?)

3. Oh, and by the way, are you comfortable with being afraid to speak to others about your knowledge of the one true God the source of all truth and authority? Of the same spoke Peter the apostle, “We fear God rather than men”.

4. Do you also wish the athiest would just stick to speaking for himself when he says the statesman’s comments make athiests uncomfortable? ‘Just wondering.

The really frustrating thing about the Freedom From Religion Foundation is their lack of respect for other people’s views. No one is allowed to have a belief system that differs from their own.

I worked with a Jewish guy. He would wish me a Merry Christmas and I would wish him a Happy Hannukkah or other holiday. It’s about respecting the rights of others to believe as they believe.

For most of my adult life, Christmas included an older Jewish couple who were lifelong friends. Their children were spread around the globe and having Christmas dinner with us broke up the boredom of a day where the stores and restaurants were all closed once they had retired and no longer spent Christmas working for folks who celebrated the holiday.

If someone wants to be an atheist, that is their right, but that in no way prevents any one from the free exercise of their religion.

No one should be able to exercise the exclusive right to never be exposed to other peoples’ beliefs.

Christians feel uncomfortable because that is one more neighbor who does have the one true and living and loving God our maker and father and his precious word to live his life by. Such a man (atheist) typically will follow dangerous guidelines which do not lead to well-being of himself nor his neighbor. Such a neighbor makes the Christian uncomfortable for his family members and his very self, for then the Christian does not know what to expect of such a neighbor, nor can he have any confidence that such a one will receive brotherly correction based upon the unchangeable truth (revealed from God) well.

In fact, an atheist is not really a proper citizen of this country as he is at odds with some of the very fundamental groundwork of the United States Constitution where the Supreme Being is invoked as its authority and author of principles therein. Unalienable rights are bestowed on us by our maker. So the atheist then is more akin to a foreigner pretending to be a full citizen.

Plain and simple, really.

That is not to say that an atheist is the only kind of person that makes a Christian feel uncomfortable either.

The point I’m making here mainly was to illustrate that prohibition of speech due to speech making someone “feel uncomfortable” can be applied in both directions, and therefore such vague legal principles are extremely silly to even try to enforce.

Why did you ask?

1. I didn’t say all Christians.

Good.

2. Then you are against the very idea of a statesman (one who is typically a representative of many others’s views?)

HuH?

3. Oh, and by the way, are you comfortable with being afraid to speak to others about your knowledge of the one true God the source of all truth and authority? Of the same spoke Peter the apostle, “We fear God rather than men”.

If you are accusing me of being afraid to speak to others about my faith in Jesus, then you are bearing false witness.

4. Do you also wish the athiest would just stick to speaking for himself when he says the statesman’s comments make athiests uncomfortable? ‘Just wondering.

Yes. People should not try to mind-read what others are thinking, feeling or believing. Try that in our Religion Forum and you will get a boot in the butt in very short order.

Why did you ask?

I asked because you made a blanket mind-readers mistake by stating, “To hear any man identify himself as an atheist makes Christians feel uncomfortable.”.

I am a Christian, but when I hear a man say such I have many thoughts and feelings but discomfort is NOT one of them.

There is a particular kind of statesman in the United States government called a representative. He is expected to represent the viewpoints of people, namely his constituents. If you acknowledge this as a legitimate role, then I ask is he required to be a mind-reader to fulfill his role? Or is the role of “representative” an illegitimate role to play in your view?
Besides, it is very reasonable to make observations about people and have insight into people without reading their minds. For example I can tell by your response to my observation that you are uncomfortable with my viewpoint. But I didn’t read your mind.

3.Oh, and…

4. Do you…

People should not try to mind-read what others are thinking, feeling or believing. Try that in our Religion Forum and you will get a boot in the butt in very short order.

How do you know that I was trying to mind-read? Or can you read my mind?!
