Liquid nicotine: Just a teaspoon could kill
FOX News ^ | March 24, 2014 | Kate Seamons

Posted on 03/24/2014 12:12:58 PM PDT by Tolerance Sucks Rocks

It can be bought on the Internet in flavors like chocolate and bubble gum—and just a teaspoon could kill a child: The New York Times takes a look at liquid nicotine, the e-liquid used in e-cigarettes, which it describes as a "powerful neurotoxin ... far more dangerous than tobacco." And with good reason: Reports of accidental liquid nicotine poisonings rose 300% from 2012 to 1,351 cases last year, with 2014's figure expected to be double that.

The victims, many children under the age of four, can experience vomiting and seizures after being exposed to even a modest amount orally or through the skin.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune notes that the bottles often convey their flavors with potentially enticing photos of fruits or chocolate, which could attract youngsters; teens, on the flip side, may be combining it with energy drinks to get high, per Fox News Insider.

"It's not a matter of if a child will be seriously poisoned or killed. It's a matter of when," says a director with California's Poison Control System.

What part of there is a vapor emitted by e-cigs that other people don't want to breathe do you not understand?

What part of there is a vapor emitted by your halitosis that other people don't want to breathe do you not understand?

The FDA has said that second hand e-cig vapors are a health hazard. What part of that do you not understand?

The FDA has also said abortifacients are safe. What part of that do you not understand?

Prove to the satisfaction of the FDA that the vapor emitted is not harmful and we'll consider possibly reducing the restrictions.

Just the response expected from a little government loving control freak. Also exactly what someone who has no clue would say - just blindly agreeing with anything the big brother government tells him that fits his own likes and dislikes.

Yeah. SO is Borax. And yet I can buy a cheap box of the stuff. Hell, I can buy a barrel of that stuff. That’s what they impregnate lumber with to make a house termite resistant. (It’s the blue lumber. That’s what I want to make my house out of.) I used it (50/50 Borax/baking soda) to keep my house and carpets pest free.

So why aren’t we banning Borax? Is it that people get no enjoyment from the stuff?

How ‘bout bleach? That’ll kill a kid. So will drain cleaner. (lye) Why aren’t we banning all that?

A liberal’s nightmare... Somewhere, some how, somebody is having a good time.

Has anyone considered that it tastes like crap? That a kid woudn’t swallow it voluntarily? That they’d gag and spit it out the second it touched their tongue?

The fact that this stuff has been out for years and there’s not been ONE death attests to that.

They were smoking where they were legally allowed to at that time. They chose to go where it was allowed as I assume that you did also.

Not to worry. I just enjoy pointing out how much you worship the people who have determined homosexuality is not abnormal.

I call them "SHeepers" Cripple.

They want Government to hold their hand too.

He never compared Jews to anything. That was your leap in logic. He did make a great analogy concerning your statement however.

Nicotine is highly addictive. This fact is well established science.

So is global warming....

Tobacco smoking is also highly addictive because smokers become addicted to their smoking behaviors and rituals.

It is an habituation, or at least it was until the same brainiacs who determined homosexuality wasn't abnormal changed the definition of addiction to include habituation in order to include smoking as addictive behavior.

When I have a craving for a ripe tomato is it because I'm a nicotine addict? Or just love ripe tomatoes? How about the baked potato I had with my dinner tonight, was my need for the potato instead of rice because of an addiction?

You just let out the dirty little secret that other smokers and myself have been discussing for years. Nic gum doesn’t help our cravings. The e-cig can reduce smoking, but you’ll still need a cig every once in awhile. Patches may as well be garbage.

There are other things in tobacco than nic that pull us to the plant. Nic is the ‘easy out’, but not the culprit.

Whine on smokers, this non smoker can't hear you!

This discussion is not about smoking - it is about e-cigarettes, which do not do any of the things you are both whining about.

Ditter, you are a wonderful person, but sometimes your hatred of second hand smoke gets in the way of your common sense and you start agreeing with the absolute fringes of the smokers haters, which I know you are not.

60 milligrams (one drop) would kill you instantly. The LD/50 (lethal dose) for humans is .9 mg nicotine/ 1 kg of body weight. It would take approx. 45 mg for a 110 lb person or approx. 115 mg for a 285 lb person. Death could be in as little as seconds due to respiratory failure. Very large doses in relation to body weight have been described as near instantaneous.

Do you have stock in phillip morris or something. You seem to be pretty strongly invested in scaring people away from e-liquid.

Yeah. Except the kid that started smoking/vaping in Junior High, got addicted and now can't kick the monkey of his back...He's having a grand old time...

You better not *touch* alcohol if you made that statement. I mean it. If you allow alcohol into your life, you're endangering the children and you have no right to speak on the subject. How 'bout sugar snacks? Children have a natural craving for sweets and can tolerate tremendous dosages of sweetness compared to adults. (That changes around age 15) Do you allow Hostess or Hersheys into your home? If you do, you're endangering children and you are wrong, by your own logic.

Seriously. How many kids really start out vaping nicotine? They don't. They do NOT. Because nicotine is not what's addictive.
