Republicans Declare Harry Reid 'Unhinged,' After He Says They May Have Helped Russia Annex Crimea

A spokesman for Republican House Speaker John Boehner called Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid "unhinged" on Monday, after Reid charged Republicans may have had a helping hand in emboldening Russia to annex Crimea.

"Since a few Republicans blocked these important sanctions last work period, Russian lawmakers voted to annex Crimea and Russian forces have taken over Ukrainian military bases," Reid said on the Senate floor Monday. "It's impossible to know whether events would have unfolded differently if the United States had responded to Russian aggression with a strong, unified voice."

Reid was referring to the stalling of a Ukraine aid package in the Senate, after Republicans objected to a provision that contained reforms to the International Monetary Fund. But House and Senate GOP aides noted the Republican-controlled House had passed similar legislation without the IMF provisions, which Republicans have said is not a necessary attachment to a Ukraine aid bill.

"The Senate Majority Leader sounds completely unhinged," Boehner spokesman Michael Steel told Business Insider in an email. "The House has acted, and is continuing to act, in a reasonable and responsible way to give the White House the tools it needs to hold President Putin accountable."

The Senate cleared a procedural hurdle and voted by a 78-17 mark to advance the bill, a version that still contains the IMF reforms. But with both Reid and Republicans sticking to their positions, it remains unlikely Congress will come to an agreement on Ukraine aid this week.

What Is the IMF Reform Package?

In late 2010 the IMF Executive Board, with strong behind-the-scenes support from the Obama Administration, proposed a series of reforms that would increase the voting power of certain emerging market nations. Additionally, these reforms would double the amount of member countries’ national “quota” contributions—the primary source of funding for IMF loans. The higher “quota” levels would come from shifting certain special “emergency account” funds over which the United States has had more control. Loss of U.S. control over these “emergency account” funds could also expose U.S. taxpayers to billions of dollars in additional financial liability from morally hazardous IMF loans (e.g. to Greece).

The reform package would also change the rules for IMF Executive Board elections, and the U.S. would lose its current right to appoint its own representative to the board—the epicenter of power at the IMF.

Instead, under the new rules, the U.S. executive director would have to be elected and, if enough other countries were opposed to the person nominated by the U.S., it is possible that a future American President might not be able to name someone to the IMF who shared his or her political and economic philosophies.

The U.S. has the largest quota of any country in the world, as well as the largest single-nation IMF voting share (16.75 percent). It has also been the only country in the world with veto power at the IMF. Due to the constitutional role of Congress, and the U.S. veto power, Congress must therefore approve this IMF reform package before it can go into effect

Harry Reid is the message boy. He’s the one who gives the marching orders to Obama. According to Obama, Reid told him to run for president. Hopefully those who control Reid will see how nuts he has become and will remove him from the senate.

Harry Reid became a Mormon while still in college, for purely political reasons. It may come as a surprise to many, but before they returned largely to Utah, there were large numbers of Mormons in and around the area which is now Las Vegas, Nevada. There had been colonies sent out from Salt Lake City as missionary groups from before the territory of Utah was finally granted statehood, and many of these missionary colonies kind of broke off from the official LDS church. These dissident factions came to be known as “jack-Mormons”, and are not allowed to enter the designated Temples of the LDS.

Harry took all the necessary steps to become a Temple Mormon, which includes paying a pretty hefty tithe to the LDS treasury, so he is “safe” from censure by the church authorities. But he is at heart a “jack-Mormon”, and if strict attention were paid to his activities outside the Temple precincts, he would be drummed out on his ear for his lapses and totally self-serving behavior. One need only consider Harry’s sly and unsubstantiated charges that Mitt Romney had “evaded” Federal taxes, through concealment and taking “illegal” deductions, of which none of the charges had any basis in fact. Harry would do this to a “fellow Mormon”, so he would have no compunctions at all carrying out similar attacks on the “gentiles” who were not LDS.

Senility and mental disorders of several descriptions may well describe Harry’s current behavior, as the man has not one shred of civility in him. No matter how softly spoken, an insult uttered with malice is still bearing false witness. And even the least devout of Mormons has some familiarity with the Ten Commandments.

Obama has catastrophically failed on domestic policy, starting in his first two years when the left controlled the entire FedGov, and the left blamed republicans.

Obama has catastrophically failed on ObamaCare, without even one republican vote for that terrible law, and the left blamed republicans.

Now it’s Obama’s foreign policy, so it’s no surprise that the left would blame republicans once more for Obama’s universal incompetence.
