Lets talk about standards, Alexander continued. Education is not just a problem in West Tennessee. Its a problem in Middle Tennessee and East Tennessee.
As the Jackson Sunem> reported, Alexander said, Id like to see a discussion about standards with no national school board, continuing to cite an issue called the national school board that has never been put forward on either the federal or state level.
Alexander is being challenged by conservative state Rep. Joe Carr (R) for his U.S. Senate seat.
Unfortunately for Senator Alexander, our campaign and grassroots conservatives throughout Tennessee are going to continue to talk about and continue to fight against - Common Core, said Carr in a press release. His increasingly nonsensical attempts to change the subject wont work and wont fool a single voter.
Just like Obamacare, Common Core is Washington telling us what to do, and Senator Alexander is once again saying one thing and doing something else, Carr added. We want local control over how we teach our children, not uniform standards dictated by education bureaucrats.
On March 13, the Tennessee state House voted 82-11 to delay the controversial Common Core standards and the aligned assessments for two years, despite Common Core champion Gov. Bill Haslams (R) warning to his GOP colleagues that repealing or delaying the standards would be exactly the wrong thing to do.
Last Wednesday, Alexander met with strong criticism for appearing with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), another Common Core champion, in Nashville at an education roundtable event sponsored by the pro-Common Core Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Tennessee Business Roundtable, and

Terrible grammar. Terrible senator.
Please somebody eliminate the plaid wearing douchebag.
I can’t stand these aw-shucks pseudo down-home GOPe assholes.
let’s don’t talk...? my goodness... “let’s not talk about Common Core.”
Perhaps. But the solution isn't handing your educational system to the federal government, which is exactly what Common Core does. So, could we talk about that for a while?
Alexander is no different from any other elitist politician. For some reason they seem to hate this country and try to do everything they can to destroy it.
Get FEDGOV out of K-12
Education was apparently a problem wherever Lamar grew up.
I is thinking us should wanting to get rid of him!!
If wish Carr was getting 1/4 of the attention that Obama’s cousin Milt is.
Well since Milt and Wayne Allyn Root have managed to get their name in the news constnatly by mentioning some extremely vague relationship with Obama even though they never met him, Carr could try doing the same (I was thinking of doing likewise and claiming my election would "embarrass Obama" since I happen to be from the same congressional district as him).
I wonder what hook Carr could use... maybe tell people his aunt is Obama's mom former roommate! He can begin every speech and article with that (claiming his election will "embarrass Obama"), and the $$$ will come pouring in from the people who drank the Dr. Wolf and Wayne Allyn Root kool-aid. ;-)
Well, Lamar, you are from East TN where YOU once were President of UT.
West TN is a joke unless you exclude Memphis in that. To say Middle TN is a problem is to mean Nashville. Williamson County runs circles around the entire state.
What a moron. Glad I didn’t live here when he was governor and proud to say I’ve never voted for him for Senate.
Come on Tennesee,dump that loser.
Let’s don’t talk about how the GOP-e is helping the Democrats ruin America. /sarc
Mike Pence, Gov of Indiana said no thank you.
We will use our our standards determined at state & local levels.
