Ukrainian ship captured by Russian forces
FOX News ^ | March 25, 2014 | Fox News' Greg Palkot and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

A Russian assault team with three speed boats, a tug boat and two helicopters captured a Ukrainian ship in Crimea, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry confirmed to Fox News.

The ship is being moved by the tug boat to a Russian military port facility in the Bay of Donuslav, the Ministry said.

There were reports of explosives set off on the ship and the assault team reportedly went on the ship after firing shots.

This was the last Ukrainian ship left in Crimea.

Earlier Tuesday, the Ukraine defense minister resigned as thousands of troops withdrew from the Crimean Peninsula, now controlled by Russia.

In an address to parliament, Igor Tenyukh said he rejected criticism that he had failed to issue clear instructions to troops, but that he reserved the right to step down. Lawmakers initially refused his resignation, but later accepted it. A majority then voted to appoint Col. Gen. Mikhail Kovalyov as his replacement.

At a news conference with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte Tuesday, President Barack Obama said there's no expectation that Russian forces will be dislodged from Crimea by force.

Obama said Russia's annexation of Crimea isn't a done deal because the international community isn't recognizing it. But he says the fact is Russia's military is in control there.

He also said that the build-up of Russian troops along the Ukrainian border appears to be an attempt to intimidate Ukraine. But he says the troops are on Russian soil and it is Moscow's right to have troops there.

This is more evidence that Putin’s interest go beyond just helping the Russians in Ukraine.

CNN.com had a banner up about a half-hour ago reporting that a US official said that Russia had moved another 10,000 troops to the border. But now the banner is gone.

The Ukrainian Navy has ceased to exist and as in the Soviet time - the Black Sea Fleet is again Russian.

“Obama said Russia’s annexation of Crimea isn’t a done deal because the international community isn’t recognizing it”

Good one, Barry.

Just another “sign of weakness”, according to Obama.

We’re talking about ships that belong to the nation of Ukraine. I know you believe that Putin is entitled to steal whatever he wants, but normal people don’t see it that way.

Did it ever exist? Ukraine doesn't seem to be a real nation. It seems to be a few different ethnic bits that fell off a diseased and dying soviet union. Rather than building the country and its defenses for the last 20 years, it seems also its ruling class is more interested in immigrating or looting the national treasury.

Obama and Putin. The perfect storm for a world where tyranny spreads and freedom contracts.

“Just because Russia invaded and took over part of Ukraine after amassing military assets doesn’t mean he’ll do it again. He said he wouldn’t, after all. And besides, the world would be mad at Putin if he did it. They would say bad things about him, like “This is 20th century behavior.” They are only doing this because they are weak. Besides, it’s not like it’s real. The world doesn’t recognize Russia’s rule in Crimea. Nobody is going to use rubles in Ukraine or Crimea or anywhere else. Nobody will need to ask Russia for permission to pass through Crimean waters. This is all so blown out of proportion. I have a pen and a phone, Putin knows that. He won’t act stupidly anymore.”

Ukraine existed before Russia. Stamping out Ukrainian nationalism led Stalin to murder millions of Ukrainians in 1933. Your callousness is amazing.

This would most likely be the Natya-Class Minesweeper “Cherkassy” (U311), the same ship that was trying to clear the channel they are trapped in on Saturday.

The NEW Ukraine defense minister just resigned.

And those Ukrainian Soldiers on that ship had been ordered home days earlier.

"...Ukraine doesn't seem to be a real nation..." Ukraine has elected some poor leaders but what country was it that elected a half-Kenyan raised in Indonesia? And yes Ukraine is a real country.

I can’t believe The Ukraine isn’t fighting a guerrilla war against the russkies. Instead, they seemed to have rolled over and are playing dead. Must be on the advice of comrade 0bama.
