Obama defends himself on Russia after Mitt Romney’s criticism
CBS News ^ | March 25, 2014

Before departing the Nuclear Security Summit in the Netherlands Tuesday, President Obama defended his handling of the crisis in Ukraine against criticism that he has misread Russian President Vladimir Putin's intentions or Russia's standing in the world.

Though the two-day gathering in the Hague was a forum for dozens of nations to discuss how to improve worldwide nuclear security, it also provided a convenient gathering place for the world's most powerful nations to discuss their response to the Russian annexation of the Crimean peninsula, which is widely viewed as illegitimate by the West. On Monday, the Group of Seven (G-7) nations moved to exclude Russia from international meetings and abandoned plans for a summit in Sochi this June.

Yet Mr. Obama, who has imposed sanctions on Ukrainian and Russian individuals and threatened to target entire sectors of the Russian economy, has faced charges that he has mishandled the situation. Among the chief critics has been 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney -- whom Mr. Obama mocked for labeling Russia the number one geopolitical threat to the U.S. during a presidential debate - who said on CBS News' "Face the Nation" last Sunday that the president's "naiveté" emboldened Putin. "The truth of the matter is that America's got a whole lot of challenges. Russia is a regional power that is threatening some of its immediate neighbors, not out of strength but out of weakness," Mr. Obama said at a press conference Tuesday when asked whether Romney had been correct. "My response then continues to be what I believe today: Russia's actions are a problem. They don't pose the number one national security threat to the United States. I continue to be much more concerned when it comes to our security with the prospect of a nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan."

"We oppose what appears to be an effort at intimidation but Russia has a right legally to have its troops on its own soil," he [Obama] said... as he drew yet another red line.

I haven’t had time to confirm it, but I understand that his “Russia is a regional power” remark was changed to “Russia is a region of power” in the written transcript. These people are sick.

He has such thin skin. If he was smart, he would never show that Romney got to him.

How does one prevent that? TSA? More Lawyers? More Gun Laws? Universal Healthcare? Kumbaya for all Muslims and their host nations? Should we make sure all police forces have SWAT Teams with military assualt vehicles and weaponry?

In Obama’s narcissistic little mind it is far less important that Russia is on the march than that he not be seen as wrong and his domestic politic opponents be seen as right. He would rather lose Europe than admit Romney had a better grip on the international situation than he did.

There is something wrong with a POTUS who attacks American citizens by name, here and abroad. What a petty, little man BO is.

"He has such thin skin. If he was smart, he would never show that Romney got to him."

Exactly! Obama looks weak and pathetic as it stands regarding Putin and Russia.

And to waste time attacking Romney shows everyone just how right Romney was/is.

Obama is not competent.

Combine that with thin skin and you have a recipe for disaster.

My biggest fear right now is that Obama will do something rash and reckless, just to show everyone what a "tough guy" he is.

If you haven't figured out by now who wears the pants in that family, you haven't been paying attention.

“I continue to be much more concerned when it comes to our security with the prospect of a nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan.”

Just where is this nuke coming from, or, I should say, which of your (Obama’s) screw ups will give which of our many enemies will bomb us? Is Putin in that number? Everybody is anxious to take advantage of our lackadaisical weakness.

I wonder how long it would take the president to put the entire nation on lockdown? Imagine a lawless son of a bitch like bozo being handed a ‘reason’ to dispense with Law entirely.

My cynical self tells me that he plans to nuke a major American city and blame it on Russia. It will likely be a city mostly populated by white honkies.
