Health Reform: Despite White House claims no one has to pay ObamaCare's individual mandate tax until next year, a Web heavyweight points out that self-employed individuals file their estimated taxes this year for 2014.
In what could be the tweet heard around the world, Internet icon Matt Drudge tweeted at 11:09 a.m. Friday:
"Just paid the ObamaCare penalty for not 'getting covered' ... I'M CALLING IT A LIBERTY TAX!"
A mere 22 minutes later, White House spokesman Jesse Lee tweeted: "Flat lie, no fee for previous year."
Lee's tweet shows just how little the White House knows about business, particularly small business, and the self-employed individuals such as Matt Drudge who file as small businesses and who each year must not only settle up for the prior year by mid-April but must also pay their first-quarter estimated taxes for the current year.
The Obama administration's media sycophants were no better informed, with the Washington Post's Greg Sargent blogging by midafternoon:
""Matt Drudge proudly tells the world he paid the penalty for not having health coverage, which he has termed the 'liberty tax.' Which is odd, because no one has to pay the penalty until they file their 2014 tax returns in April 2015."

Agree. The larger issue is “how was this man elected?” and most on this forum know the answer(s). The solution is tougher. My “mission” is working with the teens at Church to get them back to our nations roots. God, Family, Country. I’ve actually think we have great teens with incredible potential but overcoming the secular culture is not easy. Most of these kids have a God sized hole in their hearts that can be filled with the Truth (I’ve actually had some of them complain they can’t discuss their Faith issues at school), we just need to be give it to them unfiltered. They can handle it. I still have hope.
For every teen in your flock, there are a thousand on the street.....................
Some candidates should find this example a useful illustration of what happens when you elect people who have no business experience, yet are given positions of authority.
We’d be better served having cocker spaniels serve as White House spokesmen.
And, a whole lot easier to clean up after.
Understand, great point. But they those 1000 on the street are but sheep. Salt, Light, Yeast. Got to do the right thing and then give the rest to God.
Which raises another related issue. How many young people who are not planning to buy Obamacare have adjusted their paycheck withholding so that they are not left with a great big tax bill come next January ?

EVERYONE who pays the ‘Liberty Tax’ pays it this year, not just the self employed. It’s called withholding. Taxes are paid in the year they are incurred. They are withheld from pay checks. You owe a penalty if you don’t withhold enough. Just because you file after the end of the year doesn’t mean you owe the taxes then. You owe them now!
