Ted Cruz, Veteran of 9 Supreme Court Arguments, Says First Amendment on Trial Today

Ted Cruz has argued nine cases before the U.S. Supreme Court in his lifetime, more than any other current member of Congress. Today, as a U.S. senator from Texas, Cruz is making a different kind of argument—one in the court of public opinion.

On his Facebook page and in a statement released by his office, Cruz has declared his support for the families who own Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties in their First Amendment challenge of an Obamacare mandate.

Oral arguments in both cases take place today at the Supreme Court.

“The Supreme Court has the opportunity to affirm our fundamental right to religious freedom,” Cruz said. “Time and time again, President Obama has granted exemptions to the politically powerful, yet refuses to grant the same leniency to those for whom Obamacare’s contraception mandate infringes on their beliefs.

“I urge the court to unequivocally stand up for the First Amendment rights of all Americans and stop the government from forcing employers with valid religious objections to violate their faith,” he added.

Cruz is no stranger to the nation’s highest court. As the solicitor general of Texas, he found himself arguing some of the most consequential cases of the last decade. On his Senate webpage, he lists six cases that established “landmark national victories”:

Cruz has filed more than 80 briefs in Supreme Court cases, including one defending Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties. Sens. John Cornyn (R–Texas), Mike Lee (R –Utah) and David Vitter (R–La.), also signed that amicus brief.

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

Actually, the entire constitution is on trial. None of ObamaCare passes constitutional muster.

I think Obama studied constitutional law so he would have more understanding of how to destroy it. To many he is an idiot but he is very cunning and patient.

“I urge the court to unequivocally stand up for the First Amendment rights of all Americans and stop the government from forcing employers with valid religious objections to violate their faith,”

The "Court" is mostly comprised of degenerate sex perverts and communists.

Dred Scott seems rational in comparison to what these clowns have wrought.

Venezuela has a "Supreme Court" too.

I wouldn’t trust Juan Roberts as a far as Krispy Kreme can throw himself.

Zero and Ted came up through the ranks at the approximate same time, zero The Chicago Way, and Cruz The Founder’s Way.

We on FR realized zero as a threat in ‘05, Cruz probably realized it in 2000 or so and has been watching his every move in order to de-construct them.

Realizing I may be late to the party with this statement: I really hate that whether or not to offer contraception is being framed as a religious choice. Does this mean a religious “test” down the road? It should be enough that a business owner, for ANY reason, says No to ANY particular coverage. People are free to seek out employment and/or healthcare as they see fit. (I know, how archaic of me).

So very true, Jim. So very true.

But, I’m not holding out a lot of hope that this case will be the rescue some are expecting.

I agree....I got cold chills of fear when I first saw Obama at that convention speech. What a nightmare.

Cruz is outstanding - the male Sarah. Thank God there are still people who understand what made us great.

Ted Cruz began with the end [of the marxist rule] in mind.

He knows what to do. And America is beginning to back him up.

People are free to seek out employment and/or healthcare as they see fit.

That's how it should be; however, under The Affordable Care Act that's not an [really] an option — forcing you to pay a penalty/tax if you do not is nothing more than saying that you will be punished if you do not… kinda like saying that our income tax is voluntary -- yeah, you can evade paying it, but not without dire consequences (thus subverting 'voluntary').

You got the right Jim.

I'd add in there's not much of anything that Zero is doing that is constitutional.
