Has Palin jumped the shark? Some think Palin's redefining political branding (Not negative!)

The Sportsman Channel's promo for Sarah Palin's new reality television venture features the gun-toting politico-turned-celebrity exploring her idea of American freedom: man caves, target shooting and race cars.

"Amazing America's" teaser "She's coming with a full heart and a full magazine," might be getting snickers but some think she's redefining political branding.

That's because, in this media obsessed culture, all of that on camera wilderness exploring, dog racing, and hunting, when coupled with fundraising and endorsing grassroots conservatives, adds up to a hefty boost in the Palin brand and political influence.

"It keeps her visible," said Julian Zelizer, a Princeton University historian and CNN contributor. "The way she's doing this, through reality television, might be the way politics is moving. Some kind of combination of being active in political arena...and acting in reality television might work."

In many ways it has for Palin....

It is called attrition thru enforcement. The other side likes to make it a false choice between a blanket amnesty or mass deportation. The lawbreakers did not get here overnight nor will they leave overnight. Attrition thru enforcement is the best solution.

40% of the illegals get here legally and overstay their visa. Strengthening the border will not solve that problem.

How long is it going to take Sabato to figure out that he is irrelevant? Time and technology have passed him by. He needs to get off the stage.

Excellent point about the visa overstay...they stay here because they can make money here (or collect money here...or get free medical care). Dry that up, and a HUGE part of the problem goes away.

Palin ran in 2008, she’s had enough time to figure that out - if she wanted to.

I haven't been able to find any person who has more shaped a party in their own image

Given the current layout of the Republican party, that's not a good thing.

She’s highlighting the fact that she’s one of us, and has the same values we have.

I don't know about you, but defending the indefensible (i.e. John McCain) isn't something one of us would do.

Every politician in America has to sell his/her soul to raise money to get exposure to the electorate.
Sarah Palin is getting handsomely rewarded to accomplish the same goal. Checkers or Chess???

This is the most astute politician in modern history. As a mom and housewife, she took over the state of Alaska and put it on the road to prosperity without as much as taking a mortgage on her garage.

Continuing to search for silly responses doesn’t advance your knowledge of the political reality, almost every conservative alive would look at the political effect the Governor has had on the GOP in the last 5.5 years and know that it is good, and that she has helped bring in a new breed of aggressive, confident conservatives.

Palin has moved the party right and helped create a hardened, conservative wing.

No kidding, Palin has good judgement, after all these years, we see that her judgement is incredible.

Cruz addressed her widely recognized political judgement when he pointed out.

From the Houston Chronicle:
The Tea Party favorite admitted that many have referred to his victory as “improbable.” He told Allen that the reason why Palin’s endorsement has had such an enormous impact is because voters consider her a true barometer of conservatism.

“In a Republican primary, everyone claims to be conservative and voters are pretty cynical. They are tired of these candidates that sounds great on the stump. They say they are going to cut spending, they get into the office and they become spineless jellyfish,” Cruz said. “I think conservatives trust Sarah Palin that if she says this guy is a conservative, that he is a real deal.”

Wow, in the past 5.5 years the mask has fallen off the Republican party to reveal that there's no difference (other than campaign tactics/soundbites) between the two parties insofar as accepted policies go.

People like Cruz and Gowdy (sp?) are very rare exceptions in the party: people who are willing to rock the boat for what they say they believe in.

I'm sorry but crediting Palin for them while ignoring that the majority of the party is (a) neutered, cowed, and/or (b) philosophically similar to Democrats, to the point there is no real difference [i.e. Statists], and/or (c) apparently incapable or unwilling of comprehending the Constitution and the limits it places on [federal] government.

It is clear that you aren’t really involved in any of this at all, nor knowledgeable, your joy is merely tossing out a negative crack to everything.

That explains your trolling against Palin, you don’t have any input of value or relevance, just useless and time consuming trolling.

Nothing but hijacking, generalized venting.

*shrug* - I am opposed to the cult of personality that she has acquired, I hated that about some Obama supporters and I hate it among Palin supporters.

Moreover, why is my opinion worth less if it does not align with yours?
Why can't I prioritize the defense of John McCain (certainly a slime-ball and arguably a Traitor) as higher than a bunch of endorsements?

What are you talking about? I've always been honest about my feelings towards the Palin Cult of Personality (Palinites) and my distaste for them and their idol-worship.

It is just nice that you admit that you are just a troll, and doing it purely out of personal emotions tied to your revulsion of conservative support for the most influential conservative, since at least 1994.

I'll admit I do sometimes troll; though this isn't one of them.

and doing it purely out of personal emotions tied to your revulsion of conservative support for the most influential conservative, since at least 1994.

You sir, are an idiot.
I've said very little regarding Palin herself; most of what I don't like about her is that she supports McCain — anybody who does support him is, IMO, likely to be a conservative in the sense of keep everything the same if 'conservative' can be applied at all.

What I have said about those who are part of a cult of personality is not necessarily true of all of her supporters; unless you are trying to say that all of her supporters ought to idolize her and cannot in any way either disagree or criticize her actions… are you?

You should be more respectful when speaking about our next President.

Just saying. :D

Palin supports McCain. Palin will always support McCain, because McCain introduced American voters to her.

A troll would jump on a Palin thread in 2014 at freerepublic, and post something like ‘what about McCain man???????? What about slavery man??????, what about the Crusades man??????

Then that troll would post nothing but silliness and insults, like calling the conservative primary voters who just named Palin as their favorite republican, a “cult” only liking her as a personality instead of for her incredible, history making effectiveness in advancing conservatism within the GOP.

That troll wouldn’t really know much about her, not even something like her endorsing Senator Rand Paul against McConnell and the establishment wing of the GOP, or being credited with making Ted Cruz, also a favorite of conservatives, a Senator, or helping to create other Senators and Governors and Congressmen.

Nope. I don't think she could pull it off; furthermore…

Palin supports McCain. Palin will always support McCain, because McCain introduced American voters to her.

Someone who will always support McCain is not to be trusted. Period.
(It would show someone incapable of making a principled stance against someone who is a proven slimeball* and quite arguably a Traitor**).

* e.g. McCain-Feingold.
** e.g. Support/endorsement of the Muslim Brotherhood, which even Egyptians recognized as throwing in with terrorists.
