Rush, that caller about ELTs and Under Water Beacons is wrong about ELTs and Line-Of-Sight Receivers.

ELTs are monitored and their geographic location is identified by SATELLITE monitors as well as ground based radio receivers.

Even more that 350 or 450 miles, we would have an automated alert on an ELT going off after 3 seconds.

are those beacons like the ones on boats? some classes of them repeat any signal they receive
