japan had a law that limited the total number of Lawyers to 10,000. this was in the 70’s, and their economy boomed. then they eliminated the law and it has been down hill ever since.

Japan has far more legal practitioners per capita than the US. But what we call lawyers are in Japan usually in house employees who do not represent people in court, but do what would require legal training and a law license in the US.

If you think there are too many lawyers (in Japan or in the US) then why are legal fees so high?
