MILES gear is old, old stuff, and it’s capability depends a lot on which part of the system is used...rifle adapters, planes, tanks...
The basic stuf is a harness with laser sensors on it, along with a a blank adapter (a screw-on barrel plug to block the gas from escaping down the barrel), and a little doohickey that triggers a low power IR beam when the membrane vibrates from a loud noise...or light tapping with your fingernail.
When the firearm is fired, the doohickey emits the laser beam. If the beam hits the sensor it sets off an alarm indicating the target is dead. Near hits will result in a single chirp. It is very much like laser tag, but allows soldiers to use their normal weapons while they train.
Someone brought that to my attention as well, just a couple of days ago.

Too many excuses here with information from imaginations. MILES gear is very expensive. And yes, it makes a big difference against our nation. It was wrong to give it to the Russians.
It corrects some serious mistakes commonly made by trainees and common tactical errors made by leaders. Problem is, daydreaming bureaucrats and their trader constituents probably also gave some of our more important fire-and-maneuver training information to untrustworthy nations.
Amen, we shouldn’t be giving them anything connected to military.
