Secret Service Incident in Netherlands Was on Heels of Car Wreck During Obama’s Miami Trip
The Washington Post ^ | Wednesday, March 26, 2014 | Carol D. Leonnig, David Nakamura and Michael Birnbaum

As the U.S. Secret Service arrived in the Netherlands last weekend for a presidential trip, managers were already on high alert to avoid any further embarrassing incidents involving agents.

The agency’s director had admonished supervisors after two counter-sniper officers suspected of drinking were involved in a March 7 car accident during a presidential visit to Miami, according to several people with knowledge of the incident. The driver passed a field sobriety test and was not arrested.

Those with knowledge of the internal investigation said the incident infuriated managers because it came less than three weeks after the traffic accident in Miami, which led to the two officers involved being sent home. Local police gave one of the officers a field sobriety test on suspicion of drunk driving but released him with a citation for the accident and no additional charges, those familiar with the incident said.

The two officers, who serve in the uniformed division, notified their superiors of the accident. They were ordered to return to Washington under Pierson’s “no tolerance” policy, an official familiar with the matter said. The two men continue to work for the agency.

Huis Ter Duin spokesman Stephan Stokkermans said the three guests involved in the incident, whom he declined to identify, under hotel privacy rules, arrived in an apparently intoxicated condition at the hotel early Sunday morning by taxi.

“They came in, they waved to the team at the reception desk,” Stokkermans said. “It was clear they had a good time, but they didn’t need any help.”

Later that morning, he said, a hotel employee discovered one of those guests sleeping in the hallway about 10 feet from his room, which had a key-card-style lock. It was about 30 feet from the nearest elevator, and the employee summoned co-workers for assistance.

No matter what I think of Obama’s politics, I want the President of the United States to have the best protection, always.

I would imagine it is very frustrating to work under this particular President, but these Secret Service Agents should be expected to rise to the challenge.

After watching this pResident disrespect the Office of the President, disrespect our flag and our military and out political system, I could not give a damn if the man has a heart attack, is taken down by cancer or is attacked by a rabid skunk. I wouldn’t cross the street to assist him in any event.

The Secret Service has reformed to reflect Obama’s leadership.

I find it odd that this news always seems to come out quickly... despite the White House having a pretty good lock on the media. Perhaps Obama’s happy to see the SS’s reputation go downhill along with pretty much every other once great institution in this country.

i think we need to get rid of the ss guard as it currently is. i think if we do have protection for the president, that’s the only’thing they do, not deal with any other law enforcement issues.

Well, you see, there’s a price to pay for insisting that employers have no hiring standards.

Liberalism means having no standards.

They are probably affirmative action hires. He probably wants these kind of folks around him, not realizing that folly and the folly of himself being elected.

If I had to protect the sleeze in the White House right now I’d probably be drinking too! I wonder what kind of abuse they are subjected to by the wookie?

“The Secret Service has reformed to reflect Obama’s leadership.”

That is what I was thinking. I would call it “affirmative action”.

As a first-grader I voted for Herbert Hoover, but don’t remember grieving over his defeat.

Point is: I’ve survived quite a few presidencies, but have not ever heard of such flagrantly unprofessional, embarrassing conduct on the part of a president’s Secret Service detail, neither at home nor abroad, until the reign of The One.

Secret Service agents brawl near bar

Four off-duty agents in California at same time as Cheney

March 02, 2002

ENCINITAS, Calif., March 2 — Four off-duty U.S. Secret Service agents clashed with a crowd of locals in a San Diego-area bar brawl on the day Vice President Dick Cheney began his four-day California tour, an agency spokesman confirmed Saturday.

THE SAN DIEGO Union-Tribune reported Saturday that an agent bit off the tip of a man’s ear in a fight outside the Daley Double bar with about 15 locals triggered by agents making “rude comments” to a local woman.

NOT-SO-SECRET SERVICE FOR VP AT OLYMPICS

02/26/2002

Two Secret Service agents earned Olympic gold in doubles dimwittedness after they lost top-secret security plans for Vice President Dick Cheney.

The document - turned over to the Salt Lake Tribune by a concerned citizen - listed in detail precautions for Cheney at the Olympic Closing Ceremony on Sunday night.

The absent-minded agents left the document in a Salt Lake City store Sunday afternoon while they shopped for souvenirs.

I wonder if they got drunk the night before. Note that the above incidents took place just a few months after 9/11.
