March 28, 2014, 07:09 pm Obama didnt attack Syria due to US war-weariness
By Amie Parnes
President Obama said he didn't choose to launch a military strike in Syria not because "it's not worth it" but that "after a decade of war...the United States has limits."
In an interview with Scott Pelley, the anchor of the CBS Evening News on Friday, Obama explained that it would have been a burden on the nation's troops and their families.
The president also added that the "costs and the capacity to actually shape in a sustained way an outcome that was viable" without having to commit resources for years, "those are things that the United States would have a hard time executing.
"And it's not clear whether the outcome in fact would have turned out significantly better," he continued.
Obama also weighed in on his meeting with Pope Francis earlier in the week saying that he "projects the kind of humility and kindness that is consistent with my understanding at least of Jesus's teachings.
"He seems to have a good sense of humor," Obama added. "And I suspect, my sense is that he's a little bit uncomfortable with all the trappings of being pope.
“Bush’s fault!”
But arming al Qaeda... that was okay.
I defy anyone to beat this guy out for dumbass of the 21st Century. This guy has a lock on it that is sealed to 1000 atmospheres...
Because he's a neophyte and an idiot.
However, he lucked into one. The USA had and has zero interests in Syria. None. Zip. Zada.
Bullcrap. It was leaked that the ‘chemical weapons attack’ were done by the ‘rebels’. And Joker Kerry let the cat out of the bag when asked who was going to pay for the was with Syria. He said “the Saudis”. We are NOT ‘mercenaries for hire’. Period!
Ah ha! Bush's fault!
Respects to those that beat me.
the interest is the Iranian surrogate that is therefore our enemy
To take a very narrow focus is to not see nor understand wthe stakes
“I was, like, totally ready to go. Totally. Toe-to-toe. One-on-one, if you will. All the way to the net. But...America said she was tired. *Tsk* Yeah. Tired. ‘Oh, I’m sooo weary of this war stuff and you promised not to get in any fights!’ I tried to tell her, ‘But this is different. Like, Hitler-different.’ But, well, you know...”
“Don’t get started about that wuss Putin. I was ready to throw down! Enough is enough! And he’s just a scrawny rat. Not a wiry cat (like me, ha!) But...America said, ‘No mas!’ And, well, the rest is history. I tried, folks.”
“Guess that’s why I got the Peace Prize early. Folks knew I’d tear it up unless I had something to compel me to do otherwise.”
That explanation is true and it makes sense. Therefore there is no way Nobama came up with it.
He didn't luck into anything.
If we accept the premise that the US has no interests in Syria simply for the sake of advancing the hypothetical, then we must conclude that he should not have proclaimed a "bright red line" to begin with. If we deny your premise, our conclusion must be even more damning.
Either way his backdown is a foreign policy disaster.
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Either way his backdown is a foreign policy disaster.
A competent President never would've delivered the "bright red line" comment in the first place -- unless he had first a.) confirmed that Syria was a proper subject of the American national interest and b.) there was both the ability and a plan for doing something to back up the statement.
Obama made his statement off the cuff, with no forward aforethought whatsoever -- betraying his own thoughtless incompetence.
In the arena of foreign relations, our President is an embarrassing amateur.
Because he is an amateur
No service to the country , and now he is commander in Chief
Never held a job , that wasnt funded .
And because he is playing checkers , while Putin is playing chess
Zero isn't just a nickname ,... he earned it !!
He could have aided the Green Revolution in Iran a couple of years ago but he was chicken.
He turned like a girl from his "red line" threats on Syria.
He is one fat wimp.
I’m just wondering when protecting our own nation will be in our interests.
Then, remember too, he said it wasn’t his red line, but the world’s red line? He tried to deny that he ever set a red line in the first place.
Politics aside, this guy is a very poor leader or manager. You don’t make threats unless you are prepared to follow through. You don’t make threats, then due to resistance, back down and say that wasn’t your policy in the first place.
I think we see the results of electing someone so inexperienced. Obama’s very first executive or managerial job is his current position as president of the United States. Arguably he was the least well prepared person ever elected. In retrospect, it’s stunning that we elected someone with exactly zero management or executive experience. And over five years in, it still shows.
He wasn't elected for his management experience or executive skills.
He was elected for no other reason than he was (half) black.
Amen.
I wasn't all that interested in having the Air Force and Navy serve as al Qaeda's personal air force. The last time they had planes they had to hijack them to get them.
Yes it is true. However it is condition that Obama and his cohorts helped create. It is kind of like the guy who killed his parents throwing himself on the mercy of the court because he is an orphan.
