Ted Cruz has it. Rand Paul does not.

Isn't that once what was referred to as having 'gravitas'? Ted Cruz has gravitas!

I was in the grocery store a bit ago and on the playlist was Mike & the Mechanics’ ‘Silent Running’. I was thinking that would be great intro music for when Ted takes the mike at his events.

I guess I’m the only TX FReeper that hasn’t met Ted yet.

No, I haven’t met him, either. But I’m almost a semi-shut-in these days.

I haven’t met Ted, yet, but I intend to.

What do you like about the Wellesse? Freepmail if you prefer. Thanks!

Hispanic is a “catch-all” term for all Latin races. Cuban is a nationality, not a race. They are all classified as “Hispanic” whether Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, etc. The term “Hispanic” has only been around about 25 years; taken from the Caribbean Island of Hispaniola. Many Mexicans do not like to be called Hispanic. Hope this helps.

I don’t choose candidates based on their race

Neither do I; and probably most people on FR don’t either. But, the general population of America (low information voters and all) ARE ready for a Prez with a Hispanic surname. Who better to fit the bill than TED CRUZ?

To take that a ‘half’ step further, wasn’t another reason being the Spanish People were ‘tired’ of every Spanish speaking person in the world being considered from Spain—or at least being perceived to be?
Almost like Africans being ‘upset’ that ALL Blacks in this country are called Africans.

Kind of the same as in this country...be a person from Cuba, Honduras, Guatamalo, Panama, South America - you know, if they speak Spanish etc ‘they’ are called Mexicans ....
Also, any and/or all Asians are ‘Chinese’
and whites are Honkies or Crackas.
Then again there is an occasional White Hispanic.

Yes, really do need a scorecard....

Okay, gotcha!

Very same reason I am hoping that the GOP candidate for governor here in MD is black. The one who is in the race just happens to also be a wonderful conservative. He is not the only good candidate among GOP hopefuls, but his color could turn out Baltimore voters in sufficient numbers to overcome the Demonazicrats’ voter fraud machine.

FWIW, I base this prediction on the fact that we had a Republicrat governor elected here in 2002. In volunteering for his campaign, I sense among the black voters that I talked to that they were excited by the prospect of voting for him because of his running mate, Michael Steele, who is black.

That's interesting. I seem to recall the term 'Hispanic' being used quite (not widely mind you) a bit when I was growing up back in the 50-60's. Maybe that was unique for my area. To use the correct term of 'Cuban' in the place of the catch all phrase 'Hispanic' would be just as easy to use and more correct IMO.

Out of curiosity where do you draw upon your knowledge for the basis of your post? I don't wish to argue but I would like to see it for myself and if what you say is indeed true I will have learned something new that I wasn't aware of before because I've never considered someone from Cuba to be Hispanic. Even the Cubans I've known do not like to be referred to as Hispanic.

The older Mexicans did not like being called Hispanic. The younger generations seem to be adapting to it. From whence did I draw my knowledge? My kids adopted grandpa was Mexican and my Sister-in-law is Mexican. I studied Spanish intently at the U of TX Arlington for 4 months; 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. Not only learning the language but learning from the Mexican people and their culture as well. Many of them would say: “I’m not Hispanic; I’m from Mexico not Hispaniola”. But, now days, it’s a common term and widely accepted. By a Hispanic surname, I’m saying one that would draw on the “Hispanic” community as a whole. People say: Well, Mexicans don’t like Puerto Ricans and Cubans don’t like Mexicans, etc.... But, sad to say, they all joined forces and voted for Obama, a “fellow minority”. If we don’t reach out for the “Hispanic” vote it will be a long time before a Republican resides in the White House again.

There it is, the whole point of you being a newbie here at FReeRepublic [ Since Oct 29, 2013 ], to push your personal political racial agenda. I personally do not agree that America is ready for a 'Hispanic' sur-named President as you claim. You should have said that the Mexicans in America of which many if not most are possibly here illegally are ready. You outed yourself here.

You seem to be pushing an agenda that will not be acceptable to at least the conservative right of the party, aka the conservative base which comprises the largest segment of the Republican party. As far as your prediction goes I guess we will see won't we. Keep dreaming.

Think what you want. I’ve been a Reagan-style Conservative since 1976. Check out all of my Posts here on FR and you will find that I have not been pushing a racial agenda. But, I do think a Palin/Cruz ticket would be a winner. Unlike you, I’m living in reality. As the saying went back in the 70s: “Reality is for people who can’t handle drugs.” So, what are you smoking? You don’t think America is ready for a Conservative President with a Hispanic surname like “Cruz”? We never thought that America was ready to put a Black Marxist in the White House either, but, we got the s.o.b. for 8 years. So, you keep dreaming........ but lay down the crack pipe.
