here in the Peoples Republic of NY, there is no open carry...there is something called a pistol license and it is needed to just OWN a handgun...NY is a “May Issue”. for most it comes as a concealed carry permit(there is also a premise permit which requires you to keep it home when not traveling to and from the gun store for buying/selling), but there are so many caveats(regulated county by county) that I rarely carry in my home county (regulation: carry only on the way and back to the range and to hunting...you may stop to eat or to pick people up)
as I carry to my hunting camp many counties away, I am required to be in control of my handgun. So while I am away I carry all the time. the county I hunt in is a no-caveat carry area. Now NY state law says no open carry. it does not say I can open carry while in the field hunting. My county gave me a written book which says I cannot carry open except when in the field hunting or at a range. So I carry open in these situations. but no one knows what the laws are suppose to be. to carry my 7.5” bbl. redhawk concealed would be near impossible, or at the least very uncomfortable.
I would move in a NY minute....except I cannot get the wife on board as she must be near her mom....

I have CC in VA and do not leave home without it.
One of these days I will get ‘nailed’ in DC, MD, NJ, CT or NY ..
Shame where one doesn’t really need it you can’t carry it BUT where you are apt to need it you can’t have it.
Then again when the citizens of a State, City etc figure the guy next to you MAY be armed, the politeness sets in better than when ‘THEY’ know ‘they’ are in a GUN FREE FOR ME AND THEE but not ‘THEM’....
OTOH I don’t appear as a target and my Pickup with VA tags may say ‘something’ to the animals...works in the Metro DC area BUT if the slugs have that figured out the Cops probably do also, just can’t give them ‘Probably Cause’ though that always isn’t a ‘slam dunk’.
