“But then I’m not a leftist seething with hatred who would like to wipe history clean of anything good and positive about and from the South, who sees Stalin as their model for conjuring up history as they want it to be.”

My condolances.

Ive been trying to acclimate myself to this brave new world for years now...and am still failing to get it....

Careful. Old glory is probably next.

It already has been banned at some schools. Administrations are afraid that it might make illegals feel excluded.

In regards to presidential elections, New Jersey wasn’t reliably GOP friendly until 1896 when McKinley was elected. Between 1856 and 1896 only once(1872) did NJ go for the Republican candidate. That was Grant’s re-election.

That would actually be pretty funny. Nobody would get it.

Arguably the national flag is more a symbol of the CSA’s policies, and the battle flag primarily a symbol of respect for the valor of the men who fought for it.

New Jersey was the most reluctant non-border state with respect to supporting the Union cause. Slavery lasted longer there than in any other state north of the Mason Dixon line. It was a Copperhead stronghold and elected George McClellan, whom Lincoln found insufficiently zealous as a military commander, and who ran as a “peace” candidate for President in 1864, as governor. New Jersey did not ratify the 14th Amendment. School segregation was allowed by local option until about 1950. While not settled by Southerners, as were the southernmost counties of Illinois, Indiana, or Ohio, many of the descendants of pre-colonial English and Dutch settlers, unless they were of New England Puritan stock, were sympathetic to the states rights arguments of the Confederacy. Obviously, New Jersey's economic and geographic interests were not with the South.
