March 28 (UPI) -- Young U.S. voters have become more likely to identify with the Democratic Party since 2006, a Gallup Poll said Friday.

Gallup said the movement is fueled partly by increasing racial and ethnic diversity. But the poll found whites between the ages of 18 and 29 have also shifted to the Democrats in recent years.

Churchill was right.

All these young folks that are drawn to the Democrats due to social issues such as abortion, gay marriage and racial and ethnic diversity will grow older and wiser and become Republicans.

Sorry, thanks for the correction.

I guess Nixon wanted to “bring us together.”

IMO, purely because of marketing. The RATs align themselves with the younger voters by going onto TV shows. They do “young things”, if you were to ask more detailed questions you would find that when given a situation younger people are more conservative than we have all be led to think.

The youth vote only emerged as a serious problem,in the 1990s.

In 1968 the Democrats won 47% of the (21) to 29 year old vote, in 1972, they won 46% of the 18 to 29 age group, in 1976, after Watergate, and with the weak, moderate (and under suspicion) Ford, against what appeared to be a social conservative Democrat with a strong military back ground, the Democrats picked up 51% of the 18 to 29 year old vote.

In 1980 Democrats got 44% of that age group, 1984-40%, 1988-47%.

It wasn’t until 1992 that the under 30 age group became a Democrat voter group, George W. did get 46% and 45% though.

The 66% that Obama won 2008, is unprecedented and doesn’t bode well for the future.

No, they won't, see post 24.

Decades of social liberalism has broken them, social liberalism/libertarianism creates more liberal voters, of all ages, it is a liberal voter producing culture.

They are getting a pig in a poke and just don’t know it yet.

If it goes on long enough, the beast they so avidly and ignorantly support will rob them of their prosperity, their liberty, their happiness, and eventually, their lives, as all tyrannies eventually do.

Sad. They are so damned ignorant. They just don’t know, most of them.

The kids love the freebees, along with many others. No surprise. Why work when you don’t have to.

True...and I can’t see a fix for that problem.

Toss in the media and entertainment industry and I’m afraid we are sunk.

By 2019 half of the children 18 and under will be minorities as classified by the USG. Every cohort that turns 18 will be more minority and more Democrat. Demography is destiny.

Those 18-29 are looking for a replacement for their parents, so they can continue to receive “free” goodies. Also, most college students know nothing of politics or American history and so they simply believe what their Liberal/Progressive/Socialist/Communist professors tell them to believe.

Hasn't that always been the case? Hell,I recall having one or two “liberal” opinions 40-45 years ago.But they melted away like ice cubes in August as I saw more and more pay stubs...filed more and more 1040s...

Racial and ethnic diversity is a very unwieldy euphemism for new recruits to the Free Stuff crowd.

Something weird is going on at Gallup’s Presidential approval rating poll. It’s up and down like an elevator.Zero gets a two day rally that sees him go from -15 to -5, with concurrent big increments in approval and decrements in disapproval, stalls for a day ; then drifts down where he was over the next 3-4 days; then the cycle runs again. They must be calling only 202 area code for one three day period each 10 days, or treasury checks for income tax refunds come out every ten days.

We bring in 1.2 million legal permanent immigrants a year. 87% of them are minorities as defined by the USG. In 1970 one in 21 was foreign born in this country; today it is one in 8, the highest in 90 years; and within a decade it will be one in 7 the highest in our history.

There are 45 million foreign born in this country not counting their US born children. Why is it surprising that there will be electoral effects? Every year we bring in hundreds of thousands of future Dem voters. Immigrants vote more than two to one for the Dems.

This is all they’ve ever known. This is their norm.
They’re perfectly happy as long as they have modern gadgets and wifi and cable.

They’re then free to keep up with the endless stream of things like American Idol.

To expect that they suddenly have a change of heart isn’t realistic.

The wheel has turned and the world has changed. IMHO it’s not going to change back.

Easier to fool the young’uns and naive no life experience libs

Perhaps this is the reason that Aristotle said that young people should be studying Euclid, but not politics.
