I'm with you, Bob. It seems more time is being devoted to piddling around than getting the job done. Perfect training for a lot of do-nothing jobs, but where I work a ticket to unemployment. Imagine this same sort of mental wanking in a combat situation... or road construction project...or any number of other jobs where results count.

The precursor to all this was 'estimating' answers, and our kids had trouble with that, "Why not just work the problem and get THE answer?" was the most often asked question.
