Palin may have been the most popular governor in history and left office with very high approval ratings.
Palin left to lead a national movement, and has changed the political landscape and moved the GOP right, and has helped elect Governors, Congressmen, and Senators like Ted Cruz.
Santorum is a guy who has been desperately seeking work since he was booted out of the Senate by an historical loss for an incumbent Senator.
About 18 points, even worse than the infamous Christine O’Donnell race, and she wasn’t a 12 year incumbent.

In total agreement with you. And it bears repeating.

Santorum has learned how to whip up some Conservatives, by appealing to their wish lists of how a moral society should operate in certain particulars; but he is no Conservative--nor does he seem to even understand the context of some of his favorite issues.
While he is postulating his moral absolutes, he fails to recognize the legal context--that is, what level of Government is responsible in a particular area of concern. The Founding Fathers deliberately left the Police Powers (health, safety & moral concerns) to the States & local governments. Santorum seems indifferent to the most basic divisions of responsibility in his rush to prohibit what offends him. That is neither Conservative, nor moral. It shows an undisciplined fanaticism, but nothing useful in returning America to her principles, both political & cultural.
