That’s a big no-no! Citizens are not required to give their SSN to police.
The news media and liberals don’t like or want you hearing about this. It takes too much away from their anti-gun initiative. Personally, I think it is a good thing and needs to be adopted all over this country.
I would add that I have heard of advice to give the police some very, very brief description of what happened, along the lines of “This person was attacking me and I was afraid he might kill me” and nothing more.

But they will ask for it, especially if you are white and speak English with an American accent.
Your SSN is a key resource for outstanding warrants, previous contact with law enforcement, DOB verification, and current employer.
You can say no, but under many circumstances, the Police can lawfully detain you until they are certain of your ID and contact information.
