Man executed with controversial drug despite lawyer's appeal

A serial killer was put to death Thursday in Texas after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his lawyers' demand that the state release information about where it gets its lethal injection drug.

Tommy Lynn Sells, 49, was the first inmate to be injected with a dose of newly replenished pentobarbital that Texas prison officials obtained to replace an expired supply of the powerful sedative.

Sells declined to give a statement. As the drug began flowing into his arms inside the death chamber in Huntsville, Sells took a few breaths, his eyes closed and he began to snore. After less than a minute, he stopped moving. He was pronounced dead at 6:27 p.m. CDT - 13 minutes after being given the pentobarbital.

God is good and not willing that any should perish so I imagine so!

That does appear to provide biblical authority for capital punishment. Unfortunately, I would have been subject to the same fate as a mass murderer with the first time I stormed off to my room, slammed the door, and yelled, “Go to hell, Mom!”

I actually heard one of these talking heads the other day state that if the drug mixture is not pure it will violate his “Constitutional right to a painless death.”

I, of course, whipped out my Constitution since this was entirely new on me and I’ll be damned if I can’t find anywhere in the that document or any of the Amendments that states a condemned prisoner has the right to a painless death.

But I did see the “cruel and unusual punishments” part of the 8th Amendment like you mentioned. The thing that gets me with that Amendment is the word “and”.

Not “or”, “and”. This makes me think, if the punishment is cruel, but common, isn’t it still Constitutional? This opens up a lot of options in my opinion, and makes any argument for a painless death irrelevant.

A couple years ago a condemned man’s last words after the injection started were, “I can taste it.”

I had the same experience when I had my wisdom teeth out under a general anesthetic many years ago.

I assume the anesthetic reaches your lungs before it’s pumped to the brain.

I’ll guess that you breath out the pungent “medicinal” fragrance, and your sense of smell and possibly your sense of taste respond to it before you pass out.

In the moments before I passed out I had no anxiety, and when I woke up I had no sense of pain or any recollection of the procedure.

I “woke up” at home!

I have no memory of walking out of the clinic with my Dad.

I have no memory of talking to him, coherently by his account, the whole drive home.

And I have no memory of kissing my Mom, telling her I felt fine, then lying down for a nap.

Although I personally oppose the death penalty, lethal injection must be the most tranquil human death possible.

The only discomfort you might feel would be the anal plug and catheter that many states require.

This CHILD RAPIST/MURDER HAS RUN OUT OF ALL 20 YRS OF APPEALS, 2 JURIES HANDED DOWN THE DEATH PENALTY, TN GOV Halsam still has NOT SET AN EXECUTION DATE OR SIGNED A DEATH WARRANT, tell him to carry out his Constitutional duty!

This is going on 20 years of appeals. DNA & confession proved he did it.

The process is no more cruel than that of putting a beloved diseased pet down. Just a OD of sleep meds will accomplish the elimination of a vermin.

Jesus told the 1 thief who believed in him he would see paradise, the other would see God’s judgement. There is only 1 unforgivable sin and that is to blaspheme the Holy Spirt, or Ghost.

Most criminals profess a conversions to get out of punishment.

Christ has to be in the heart, not mind.

Parent of a murdered child, friend of many who have had their Loved Ones murdered, retired Victims Advocate. Which is more painful the rape and strangulation of a 8 year old or the peaceful OD of sleep meds on the rapist/killer?

GOD will judge their redemption in the end. But justice still has to be carried out! Or you send the wrong message to would be killers, rapist of 8 year old little girls.

That might take a while. I personally would prefer to see public hanging as the method of execution for Texas. The way they do it now does not seem to take the deterrence aspect of executing monsters into consideration.

Word of caution, crime is not counted accurately. More of our governments fuzzy math tricks. It is Hierarchical Counted, only the most serious crime is counted if there were actually 4 crimes committed at the time. Kidnap, rape, rob then kill a person, only the murder counts. Rest flushed down the toilet.

This is an older study as there are no newer ones, this gives you a big idea of just how many additional early release of criminals to parole and probation cause.
Probation & Parolee’s
https://www.ncjrs.gov/txtfiles/ppvsp91.txt
In 1991, 45% of State prisoners were persons who, at the time they committed their offense, were under conditional supervision in the community—either on probation or on parole. They then committed an additional 74,400 new crimes. Their original crimes add up to 25,900. The NEW crimes FAR out ceded their REPEAT CRIMES. Total 100,300 crimes this is JUST 45% of the parole and probation population. Just imagine the number if it had been a 100% study?

Recidivism
http://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=tp&tid=17
These offenders had accumulated 4.1 million arrest charges before their most recent imprisonment and another 744,000 charges within 3 years of release. Some one do the math. 4.1 million plus 744,000 the government actually caught or tried? Minus the Hierarchical Counting of crime!

Memphis 11 month 29 day facility has a re ofence rate of 85%, time served 90 days. Many on the weekends. They use to grow their own food, shared it with the poor, now are forced to buy it by greedy major food providers. They go in mainly in the winter months, most have 30- 50 crimes apiece they have been convicted of. Can’t fight gov’t facts.

I used them well to eke out 14.5 yrs of my child’s killer 20 yr plea bargained sentence, 1st down to 2nd, sentence range 10-30 LIBERAL prosecutor ran when he saw me, gave him 20 yrs, 6 parole hearings, first just 10 months after the plea deal that took 2 yrs to reach. Weapon FENCE POST, I see no ban on them. He made threats to kill any one who testified against him from JAIL! I am his # 1 target.

He now walks a free man, my Jeremy has been in a cold grave 25 yrs on 4/11 of this year. Victims NEVER HEAL. I have a hole in my heart that cannot be mended.

It is their last chance, one which they denied their victims. Jesus died to free us all from sin in general, not just from sins humans approve of for forgiveness. Vengeance is His and so is grace and mercy.

Prayers for all the victims’ loved ones. May they have peace knowing he can never hurt anyone ever again.

Oh, I agree. I don’t think this process is cruel at all. The only problem is that it appears to be getting harder to obtain the drugs. Too much bad PR.

Personally, I’m in favor of bringing back the guillotine. Very quick, nearly painless from what they can tell, and no outside vendors.

If you are a Christian who studies your Bible, then you would know there have been times throughout Biblical history that God has ordered the nation Israel to wipe out some nations and tribes to the last person.

Often, Israel failed to do exactly that, and the consequence was that many in Israel took up worship of the idols of the nation they were supposed to wipe out. But when they did follow the instructions of the Lord and did wipe out a nation God had condemned, did they stand around and say, "What do we do now?" Or did they rejoice in thanksgiving, offer sacrifices, and sing the songs of Israel. (Remember all of those Psalms that speak of joy that God has delivered the Jewish people from their enemies.

And then, what about the prophetic Scriptures In the future, Jesus will return to earth to conquers His enemies, and the enemies of His people? And, Christians as well as other armies of the Lord will follow Him and observe that destruction of those enemies. And remember that verse in Revelation when the Saints of God ask when He is going to restore them and overcome their enemies? Will those Saints rejoice in the coming victories or not? And those victories involve the bloody slaughter of the Lord's, and our, enemies.

Sorry, Brother or Sister. The weight of Scriptural evidence goes against your statement that he will rebuke His followers when they rejoice in the executions of His and His people's enemies.
