“...I sense the regression began right after that invasion...”

I think you are right. And when the Russians pulled out we had fallen under the influence of multi-culturalism instead of continuing to show some positive encouragement for our ways, our heritage, our rights, and our faith.

which shows their abysmal ignorance of Afghanistan society.

It shows they believe the propaganda they've been spewing. America evil and suppresses women. Islam good and respects women.

I doubt bitter experience will smarten them up one iota.

While the irony is that, the Russians have gone back to their roots.

There is no insanity that a little properly applied lithium won’t cure.

For Pete’s sake, she was a journalist. Being there was her job, and she’s not culpable for her death. The crazed Islamic nutbag is responsible for it.

And they have killed many male journalists, too.

Blame the victim much?

-——Blame the victim much?——

In this instance yes. She was foolish to go there, stupid actually.

Her rights there are dictated by there , not some feminist idealized right applicable throughout the galaxy.

Blame the victim much?

If you want to play games on the interstate you can, but expect some team members to be run down from time to time. This time it was her turn.

She chose to play on the interstate.

Should she bear the blame?

Not according to you, but I ask, who was the person responsible for her being there? Me? You?

The phrase “Being at the wrong place at the wrong time” refers to ever being anyplace in Afghanistan.

You got that right.

There are places in this country and in my own city that I stay away from. The phrases "Use common sense" and "Use the brains God gave you" also come to mind.

It is interesting that the only thing the US has accomplished in Afghanistan is to compile the execution list for the incoming government.

But. . .but. . .but. . .don’t they know freedom of the press is like a protective shield. . .especially when a journalist is a female bringing enlightenment to the ignorant? Don’t they know that? Besides, aren’t all journalists multiculturalists and therefore should celebrate our diversity and honor their culture and not send a female into such an area as that is culturally insensitive? Don’t they know that?
Prayers for family and friends.

I WON'T say "too stupid to live" about them; I won't.
I'll just say "There but for the grace go I.
No, I wasn't EVER that stupid either.

I guess your last remark was the best: Prayers for family and friends.

One thing I do remember was that the Americans allowed the girls and women to go to school

All serious conquerors know that you don't mess with the women until you kill or castrate all the men first.

If we wanted to create a native government, not a colony or a protectorate, the last thing on earth we should have done is screw around with the natives socio-sexual customs.

Very...bad...idea, and, of course, we have identified tens of thousands of women and girls for the rape and murder lists.

Good thing you lived and learned.

Your clue-bag filled up before your luck-bag ran out.

==============================================

She knew the risk and how much she would be resented. And you're right about the killing of many male journalists too.

So she decided to take her chances: going to a country where "many male journalists" were killed and where she knew she would meet with overwhelming resentment, hostility and anger.

I wonder what she expected? She wasn't stupid. Was she so arrogant that she thought that she would be safe because she was American, a woman?

WHAT could have possessed her to act so irresponsibly?
--It wasn't her "job" to go where she wasn't wanted.
--It wasn't her "job" to be where her life was in danger.

NO journalist is expected to risk his/her life for what?.... a story, an article in the newspaper? And said newspaper would be at the bottom of a birdcage the next day.
It was irresponsible for her to go there.

Her family must be heartbroken. My prayers are for them.
