Because the Soviets did far, far worse to them. The forced starvation of Ukraine in the early 30’s is one of the most underreported genocides of the 20th Century. It isnt that difficult to see why many Ukrainians chose the Nazi’s as the lesser evil.

In Poland the Soviets killed or relocated millions, in their march to capture Germany, they raped any woman or girl they could get their hands on.

Soviet brutality almost made the Nazi’s seem compassionate. When your life is surrounded by sheer brutality, you latch on to any measure of possible freedom, no matter how fleeting.

I still have a lot of family in both Poland and Ukraine, these comments about Nazi’s taking over are way over blown, if you want to see real fascism, take a gander at what is going on in Russia nowadays.

The people in Ukraine are fed up though for the most part, Russia has been manipulating them and treating them like a satellite state even after the Soviet split. They push puppets like Yanukovych to further their interests, a criminal who robbed the nation blind. Ukrainians want nothing to do with joining NATO, but they so wish to join the EU, particularly the younger generation. They want a measure of independence from Russia and are tired of their nation being a Russian puppet.

I'd have to disagree the famine in Ukraine is unreported...in fact it has been very much recognized among all nations involved and official documents signed by those nations.......so that argument is no longer considered in Political circles today, though of course the citizens who lost family members remember it. It's also pretty apparent to even the International Leaders that dealing with Russia as it is today is not the same as dealing with the Russia as the USSR. Russia's become more socialist than Communist.....but it's just been the last fifteen years the people have pulled away from Communism so the oldsters are still alive, for that you can have a crossover between the generations. But most of the citizens, and certainly the current generation are socialists. As for Ukraine being manipulated by Russia...when hasn't there been a time when Ukraine hasn't someone manipulating them??? Poland and Romania and others have also....because Ukraine 'IS' a divided country clearly...the West favors the EU and the East and South Russia..... Additionally...look at who they've lined up for Presidential running! Same old people that have bankrupt them before....it always comes full circle for Ukraine....Oligarchs and Ukraine Politicians together will always keep Ukraine under...until the next repeated uprising...and the next.
