Not bad for the Valley. And there are always opportunities for police there to supplement their income.
Well, at only $34 an hour, he probably hangs out on interstate exit ramps with a begging sign and a squeegee when he's off-duty.
THANK GOD that he'll probably keep 90% or more of that paycheck when he retires at 52 (with full medical benefits).
I could get used to getting $5000+ a month for walking out to the mailbox twice a month when I hit 54 years old...
“Not bad for a public sector job, which years ago was considered to be “one step above welfare”, wouldn’t you agree?”
—
Being one step above welfare is certainly better than being on welfare. My mother was widowed young, with 2 small children, and a public sector job was a Godsend for her——she worked for years.
.
Let's do the math!
68,000 / 2000 hours = $34 an hour.
HOWEVER.
When young Javier Coronado retires in several years after 20 (2014)- 25(2019) years of "service" (**snicker**), he'll probably be hauling down $30+ an hour in retirement.
20 years, 2000 hours/year, $22 an hour (median wage) = $880,000
If he lives to be 75 years old after retiring at 50 (he's in his middle-late 40s), he'll haul down this much:
25 years, 2000 hours per year, $30 an hour = $1,500,000
$880,000 + $1,500,000 = $2,380,000 / 40,000 hours (20 years work, 2000 hours per year) = ~ $60 an hour, or $120,000 a year. NOT including the full medical benefits he'll be getting.
I'll allow that that's BIG MONEY for hitting on drunk chicks and ticketing peasants.
You might recognize this quote:
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.
$60 an hour plus lifetime med bennies is mighty good "eating out of our substance"...
