It’s understood that we can have democracy or billionaires, not both.

The way to maximize the number of billionaires is through democracy.

RE: "The way to maximize the number of billionaires is through democracy."

Clinton, Tony Blair, et al. recognized that government cannot build wealth and "raise all boats." So they mostly agree with you. But they have a Third Way.

From and Internet (British) source: "The Third Way is in favour of growth, entrepeneurship, enterprise and wealth creation but it is also in favour of greater social justice and it sees the state playing a major role in bringing this about. So in the words of one of its gurus Anthony Giddens of the LSE the Third Way rejects top down socialism as it rejects traditional neo [European] liberalism."

I do not believe that the Third Way rejects top down socialism.. indeed once the wealth is created -- and is thought to be sustainable -- the Third Way will ask the entrepreneurs, "Got rope?" (A Marxist revolution from the top down.)

in the manner that Lenin and the Bolsheviks used the New Economic Policy (NEP) to save the Revolution by building the economy by allowing some degree of free enterprise. Then they eliminated the Nepmen and foreign corporations ("useful idiots") and there was Stalin.

BTW I remember the 1960s Marxist-Alinsky campus radical, psycho spoiled brats (Bill Ayers, Bill and Hillary as examples).

Democracy without a moral foundation leads to the French Revolution II.

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

-de Tocqueville? Alexander Fraser Tytler?

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. " John Adams
