San Diego State University has announced its an exciting, new graduate-level program.
This should really help graduates get a career-launching job…at the local coffee house. Or, in the case of San Diego, perhaps a regional brewery.
The university will offer an “Advanced Certificate in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies,” starting this fall.
According to a university press release, the purpose of the program is to “advance knowledge in sexual and gender identity, and increase understanding of the diverse cultural, historical, ethnic, racial and contemporary experiences of people across sexualities.”
The university boasts that the new LGBT certificate program will be one of only a few such programs offered in the U.S.
In addition to twelve units of academic course work, the certificate will require students to participate in community service and “activism.” The university statement does not specify what kind of “activism” students will perform, but internships and gay and lesbian themed “study abroad” trips will be part of the program.
This year, students in the LGBT study abroad program will travel to Jamaica as part of their taxpayer-funded coursework.
Other courses in the program include, “Sex & the Sacred,” “Lesbian Lives and Cultures,” and one course entitled, “Women and the Environment.”
San Diego State was among the first public universities in the nation to offer courses in LGBT Studies. Its first such courses date back to the 1970′s. “We saw a real need to build a program to pull all of the graduate-level classes that explore LGBT issues together into one place,” said Esther Rothblum, a women’s studies professor who heads up the new program.
Each summer for the past seven years, the university has held a rainbow flag raising ceremony on campus, in honor of San Diego’s Pride Week.
SDSU even hosts a special “Lavender” graduation ceremony each spring, reserved exclusively for students “who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or allies.”
Traditional academic disciplines such as mathematics, science, and the humanities, are not placed on a pedestal at San Diego State University. Instead, SDSU’s focus on race and sexual orientation extends to its core academic requirements. The university requires every undergraduate to fulfill a cultural diversity requirement in order to graduate. Meanwhile, it is possible to graduate without ever taking an American history course.
“Diversity is a cornerstone of a well-rounded education,” said provost Nancy Marlin in response to the university’s newest graduate-level program.
The “Advanced Certificate in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies” adds yet another weapon to San Diego State’s arsenal of programs designed to shape the moral and political views of the youth–all at taxpayer expense.

I guess San Diego State is a decent school. However, I hadn’t heard that their was a big demand over Transgender Studies. This certificate even if legitimate (it’s not) is basically worthless. You can’t even teach with it. You will need to have an advanced degree just to have any possible use for it. Total waste of money for people to go after this certificate. Of course, it is a money maker for those that want to be “progressive” and “enlighten”. Our country is in big trouble.
This is why tuition increased in CA colleges!
Future community agitators funded by big businesses, govt and non-profits...one can make money from this degree see Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton.

Having had people apply for Help Desk positions with useless advanced degrees, I will tell you when I've hired them in the past, I've always had problems involving arrogance. Therefore, I won't hire somebody like that...they are "overqualified" -- and are basically unteachable.
I would imagine that there are plenty of hamburger-flipping managers who would likely feel the same.
I’ve never been in the hiring business, but I’m sure all the managers out there are looking at that certificate and putting it in the round file. If I had a business, that’s what I would do, because it will lead to nothing but trouble in the future.
It appears that New Age academic elites have “progressed” from sitting around staring their navels and chanting “Ummmmmmmm”!
They now sit around staring at each others ****** and chant, “Ummmmmm, what am I, male, female, half-n-half, either-or, neither-nor, etc, etc, etc...”

The fewer libs in general conservatives hire the better overall. I never understood why today right wing business owners continue to do it. I’d think they all would have shared your experience by now.
Besides, it’s not like there is a shortage of applicants qualified for about anything these days. And finding one without WyminZ/gay studies degrees should be easy enough.
And how many jobs are waiting for this degree?
Well considering all the Vans shoes “Passion over profit” commercials I see lately on Youtube I think it’s more about ‘personal growth’....

An intelligent student looks at the job market before deciding on a course of study, and then takes the major most likely to lead to a decent job in an enjoyable profession. They can’t be that intelligent if they choose such a dead-end course of study. Well, not really “study”, because it is not really teaching anything, but I don’t know what else to call it.
Wow, an instant job getting diploma there.
I guess at the end of the course and in order to receive a certificate the student must demonstrate understanding of diversity, the final exam will consist of each student being required to perform a variety of sexual acts with another student of the same sex, in front of the entire class, practice for the final is encouraged throughout the length of the course.
Never happen you say...the odds are great it will.
The 2 percenters can only increase their ranks if they can force YOU to promote and endorse their deviant behavior.

1) The plumbing doesn’t work,
2) There is no natural purpose for the behavior.

If they can force YOU to promote and endorse their deviant behavior, they can more easily VICTIMIZE YOUR CHILDREN, when they are most vulnerable and their natural desires have not yet developed.

Can you imagine if the satirists like Stewart targeted the left they’d never run out of material? Instead of mocking anti gun gun runners or tax hiking tax cheats or mansion owning global warming alarmists or even transgender graduate degrees, they satirize people like Palin or Cruz. Its quite amazing.
