Senate Passes Unemployment Benefits Extension
Roll Call ^ | April 7, 2014 | By Humberto Sanchez

Posted on 04/07/2014 3:32:52 PM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

The Senate approved a bipartisan unemployment benefits extension Monday, with six Republicans joining Senate Democrats to clear the measure.

The measure passed 59 to 38 with all Democrats in attendance voting for the bill. The five Republicans who helped negotiate the measure joined the Democrats voting in favor of the bill as well as by Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid teed up the vote with another screed against the billionaire Koch brothers.

Reid on Monday tied his war against the Kochs to the fight to restore emergency unemployment insurance benefits that have been cut off since December.

“Americans need a fair shot at getting back on their feet and finding work, but Koch groups are opposing benefits for the unemployed,” Reid said, teeing off on Charles Koch’s letter to the Wall Street Journal saying that “dignity” was under attack by the government.

“What about the dignity of a single mother from Las Vegas, Christina and her son, and see what dignity there is stuck living in her grandmother’s living room because she and her son were evicted when Christina’s benefits were cut off?” Reid fumed.

“Perhaps Charles and David Koch should spend their night sharing one air mattress like Christina and her son and see what dignity there is in living like that. The Koch brothers want Americans to be dignified as they lose their homes, cars and their security.”

Why won't Republicans defend the Koch brothers and point out that Reid is a paid shill of a billionaire enviro-wacko.

Rush talked about this today, how none of the Republicans won't speak up and defend these people. Yeah, I know the answer. I was asking a rhetorical question.

I won’t stand up and defend them because they’re the principal push behind amnesty. Sorry, but that alone makes them indefensible.

"Three members Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., and Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., did not vote."

"Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Susan Collins of Maine, Dean Heller of Nevada, Mark S. Kirk of Illinois, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Rob Portman of Ohio."

Very few politicians seem willing to assault Mount Soros.
They must fear the retribution quite a lot.

Thanks, I didn’t know that the Koch brothers supported amnesty.

The article reads as if it was written by an intern -- and a stupid one at that. No indication of who the five collaborators are, except this gem of composition:

"The five Republicans who helped negotiate the measure joined the Democrats voting in favor of the bill as well as by Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H."

Apparently nobody proofreads anything at Roll Call.

All of the $100 million ad-buy on talk radio -- which I promptly turned off whenever it was played -- was bought by groups funded in whole or in part by the Koch brothers.

It's a also why Marco Rubio and Scott Walker decided to throw their political futures into the toilet; both received a lot of help from the Koch PACs and didn't want to see their funding dry up.

Generally, I think the Kochs are helpful to the cause, but Amnesty is too big an issue to give them a pass just because of the good things they've done.

This bill will not be enacted into law as the House will not pass it. Therefore, it will become election fodder for the Democrats. That’s probably good for Democrats in safe districts or in solid blue states. It may not work so well for Democrats fighting for reelection.

My reason is much simpler...they're billionaires, and can afford entire public relations firms to defend them.

Walker and Rubio are clearly (to date) WAY better than the centroid of the GOPe.
