The wealthy voters in my county (Marin) near San Francisco, would never allow it. They are proudly protective of their presumed exclusivity. Come back twenty years from now, their grandchildren may feel differently. For now, no Bart Train and no Smart Train either.

Here's a revolutionary idea . . . build a working “transporter” like they've used on all the Star Trek programs and movies. Instantaneous transport to anywhere on the planet certainly beats the train.
This provokes the observation: Why do “progressives” think a 19th century mode of transport, railroads, are cutting edge 21st century technology? Why not teleportation or Mach 5 travel in an exoatmospheric aircraft for the 21st century?

They’ll get this system built after trillions of dollars are spent and then someone will have perfected the star trek transporter.
