Did Google’s $1 Billion Force Mozilla to Dump Brendan Eich?
FrontPage Mag ^ | 04/08/2014 | Daniel Greenfield

This is highly speculative, but considering that some people are moving from Firefox to Chrome, it may be worth thinking about.

Over the years, Mozilla’s reliance on Google has continued to grow. Indeed, in its report on Brendan Eich’s promotion to CEO of Mozilla, the WSJ noted that “Google accounted for nearly 90% of Mozilla’s $311 million in revenue.”

So, with its Sugar Daddy having also gone on record as being virulently opposed to Proposition 8, to think that that Google’s support didn’t enter into discussions of whether Prop 8 backer Eich should stay or go seems, well, pretty much unthinkable.

“It is the chilling and discriminatory effect of the proposition on many of our employees that brings Google to publicly oppose Proposition 8,” explained Google co-founder Sergey Brin in 2008…

So, was keeping Eich aboard viewed by Mozilla — perhaps even by Eich himself — as a possible threat to the reported $1 billion minimum revenue guarantee the organization enjoys for delivering search queries for Google?”

Google is not a charity and considering its aggressive promotion of Chrome, it had reasons for wanting Firefox gone.

So that $1 billion wasn’t a gift. Google was aggressively locking in its search monopoly. But that’s not to say that some people at Mozilla might not have been nervous, particularly considering Firefox’s market share decline.

And Google has been known to play hardball and P8 opponents have been known to behave aggressively and irrationally.

Mozilla Firefox Falls to 3rd Place, Hits Lowest User Level Ever

EXCERPT:

Firefox’s market share has been dropping for some time, but it has now fallen to third place behind Google Chrome for the first time.

While Google Chrome has been struggling with market share, Firefox has been in a steady decline down to 17% market share in March from 20% in May of last year.

Firefox fell below 18% this year so that it no longer even claimed a fifth of internet users.

Opera’s market share has also fallen, but may rise again as users search for browser alternatives to Firefox.

Mozilla is Fascist.
Google leans hard Left.
Microsoft donates billions to the Left via Bill and Melinda Gates.
Apple doesn’t want my dirty Climate Denier money.

This situation screams for a conservative entrepreneur to create the Fox News
equivalent of an OS, Browser Apps for conservatives.
There’s money to be made.....

Firefox/waterfox was my favorite browser. I hate google and chrome. IE is barely tolerable but I guess that is my choice browser now.

Could be true. I’m sick of FF anyway. On Mac it’s a slow resource Hog.

Chrome sends $$$ to Google, who then sends $$$ to Mozilla.

Copying and pasting from a similar thread:

Pale Moon. Almost identical to Firefox.
http://www.palemoon.org/download-ng.shtml
I had it installed, running with all of my bookmarks in less than five minutes. Not a single hiccup.

Also:

From the Pale Moon Facebook page:
“Since several people have been asking about this: Pale Moon is in no way associated or affiliated with the Mozilla Corporation.”
https://www.facebook.com/PaleMoonBrowser

Pale Moon also accepts donations. Let Mozilla see the revenue that they’re standing to lose due to their decisions.

Ironic for people who have swished from Firefox to Chrome in the past few days...

I think it's funny how some people here are searching for a "conservative" browser to use.

When you all find one, let me know, okay?

RE: Ironic for people who have swished from Firefox to Chrome in the past few days...

Let’s face it, many of the things we use everyday, from driving to flying, to dish washing to what we eat to how we use the internet are made by LIBERALS.

It would be almost impossible to boycott every product out there simply because of the CEO’s ideology....

The guy who runs PaleMoon is pro-gay marriage. He has also said he believes it is wrong to fire people for their political or religious beliefs. That is probably about as conservative as anyone in the Internet browser business is going to be.

RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy.

The fallout of acting all fascist against Mr Eich will not be lost on the rest of the liberals in business.
