Trey Gowdy really exposes the lawless nature of Eric Holder in this exchange about mandatory minimums. Holder is trying to bypass the law by telling his attorneys not to divulge to the courts the amount of drugs that were seized from the offender. In doing this, the court can’t invoke mandatory minimum laws because they don’t know the amount.
It’s this exchange that caught my attention:
GOWDY: That’s my point, is that your memo is trumping a congressional statute.
HOLDER: Well, I mean, we always have discretion. And, would you say that…
GOWDY: But you don’t have discretion on whether to the follow the law or not. That’s my point.
HOLDER: No, no, I would disagree in the sense that, taking into account resource constraints, it is incumbent upon those of us in the executive branch to make the maximum use of the resources that Congress gives to us. That necessarily means we’re always making choices about the kinds of cases we bring, how we deal with cases we bring…
GOWDY: But you’re already expending the resources of the prosecution or you and I wouldn’t be having the question. This is all about sentencing. I have no qualms if you say I’m gonna decline prosecution. You have an unfettered right to do that.

Wasn’t Gowdy a District Attorney before he ran for office?
I’m not sure about District Attorney, but he was a Prosecutor in SC. I first saw him on the Investigation Discovery Channel, going after criminals in the Greenville-Spartanburg area. He is well versed in the ways of low life scum sucking dirt bags. You know, the kind we have running the country.
Anyway, if you watch the Investigation Discovery Channel, you may run into him when he was a very able and competent Prosecutor.

Back in the Clinton administration, then Deputy AG Holder received a referral from a Federal Judge, Royce Lambert, that alleged perjury in his Court on the part of Ira Magaziner, a WH aide and Hillary confidant on his testimony on Hillarycare.
Holder refused to prosecute that Democrat either. The judge was left with nothing to do buy levy a $250,000 fine against the US Government in favor of the plaintiffs. Holder and the Dems were OK with that.
Yeah we need to clone him and Ted Cruz a few times...lol
Holder wants both executive and judicial power. We here in MA saw the tyranny of that in Governor Hutchinson, who was both governor and chief justice. Hutchinson’s house was soon destroyed and he was sent packing, back to England.
I am tending to think that the USA needs two persons such as Goudy and West to right the ship of State.

I don’t believe that mandatory minimums are good thing. I rank it up there a bit below asset forfeiture.
Though, Gowdy’s argument is a tacit admission of sorts regarding Jury Nullification. After all, it’s not Jury’s that determine sentencing, it’s the Judge. (accept in Death penalties).
What Gowdy is saying is “Don’t prosecute” if you think it doesn’t meet the mandatory sentencing. But if you do, leave it to the Jury to decide by nullification if it does ... well sort of.
Funny though, Holder’s misstep in arguing against “following the law” is most revealing, as Gowdy already conceded that he had “unfettered” discretion whether to prosecute or not.
I believe that God is involved in all of life and/or death. Holder had best be very aware of this even if he is not a believer.

I watch as many of the clips on him as I can. I’m most impressed too.
Yes, I love Trey Gowdy, but I tend not to like laws that tell the judicial branch what to do in too much detail. I have to reluctantly admit that the three strikes laws in WA seems to be helping. I still prefer the “repeat felony offender” statute in Montana though.

I think he’d be a good one, but I like him in the House - -perhaps head of the Judiciary Committee.
I think Rep Gohmert would be a good one, too, but I think he’d be a great Speaker of the House.
Ted Cruz would be great as AG, but I’d like to see him as Pres or VP (moving to Pres in 2024). Then moving on as a SCOTUS justice (yes, I’m fantasizing).
Mark Levin would do a bang up job as AG IMHO
Bob Cucinilli (former AG from VA) would also do a good job as AG and possibly the AG from Texas (don’t recall his name right now, but he was on Fox quite a few times during the states suit against Obummercare).
